United Kingdom Where are the Shout, KL and Criterion 4K's in the UK?

With all the recent Shout, Kino Lorber and Criterion 4K releases in the US, the UK is starting to look left behind. I'd really like more of these titles come out locally.

At least we can import these titles at a premium but then we are stuck with Region A blu-ray discs with extras that don't work.

I feel like I've been importing superior UK 4k discs left and right these days. Maybe that's just me!

Rights issues, cost etc is my guess.

The physical media scene in the UK is very healthy and we are blessed with a lot of boutique labels, but they can only put out so much each month. We don't really have a big operation like Kino Lorber here, who can put out an insane amount of product. Arrow, Eureka, Second Sight and now 88 Films are releasing UHDs at a steady rate. I think it's only a matter of time before we start to see accessible movies like Misery, To Live and Die in LA, Silence of the Lambs etc see UK releases but it is going to take that much longer.

The really frustrating one is Criterion. F***ing Criterion. They have the remasters on disc ready to port, but as always, they are displaying the common sense and business moxie of a sun-baked turnip. And yes, I understand that not everything they release in the USA can be licensed in the UK but that's always been the case. And they're releasing bloody 1080p discs of UHD ready titles.

Well, you can get a multi-region player.

Shout and Kino also don't have a UK presence, so they'd have to come from a UK label. Criterion does, so you may well be right to question their lack of 4K releases in the UK market.

On the other hand, we have 4K releases in the UK that the US doesn't have. Same as always.

The UK has had releases like Dawn if the Dead, Drive, Crash, Henry and future ones like Martin, The Hitcher, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Videodrome and Italian classics like Burial Ground. We haven't done too bad.

The Child's Play and Halloween films will surely follow. The UK gets some things first (exclusively too) and sometimes it's reverse. I'll be importing Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Arrow's Videodrome even though they're bound to come out here.
