Warner Bros The Outsiders: The Complete Novel (1983)

The Outsiders: The Complete Novel Edition

Quote:
In 1983, Francis Ford Coppola's film of S.E. Hinton's novel struck a powerful chord with audiences, capturing the intense feelings of being caught between childhood and adulthood, and not belonging anywhere. Decades later, Coppola has revisited the film and reintegrated 22 minutes of character-enriching footage, including a new beginning and ending more true to the book. A rousing new rock-n-roll soundtrack featuring six songs from Elvis Presley and other music greats make this new version of The Outsiders one of movie history's great rediscoveries.

Release date: June 3. Source: WB Press Site.

I've never seen this one all the way, but from what I saw, I enjoyed it.

Early Tom Cruise role and many other actors, too.

The book is much better but this isn't a bad adaptation. Has Tom, will buy.

I've never seen the re-release Coppola did though and wonder if that will be included in this.

I hope we get both the Theatrical version and The Novel edition with the courtroom ending. Love this movie.

Maybe it was the fact that I was watching it in school, or whatever, but I couldn't get into this movie at all, and I didn't like it at all.

Thinking I should probably give it another chance, because it sounds like I didn't get anything out of it that I should have, haha.

Nice! I imagine this'll be the "Complete Novel" version which restored many scenes from the book which were omitted from the original version, and also adds a rock 'n' roll soundtrack.

Great news!

I loved the book during my childhood, and "The Complete Novel" edition of the movie is a brilliant slice of 1980s nostalgia.

I was wondering if Warner would take advantage of the film's 30th anniversary. Would love to retire my snap case DVD.

I'd love the theatrical version. I liked Carmine Coppola's score better than the rock music. I thought the pacing was messed up with the complete novel version also.

I've never seen the Complete Novel version.

Hopefully this will have both versions.

I've been a HUGE fan of the film since it was originally released. I've had the VHS, DVD and can't wait to get the Bluray.

I was pleasantly surprised at the Complete novel version, I LOVED the new beginning, added scenes and that extended ending, I thought it really gave the film new depth and insight into the characters. I loved the new rock and roll soundtrack added to it, but then again, I kinda miss the original dramatic score that I grew up with. I kept the older version and made a two-disk case with the Complete novel, so I have both.

SOME scenes are better with the new soundtrack, while other scenes are better with the score. I wish it was properly balanced.

I hope the bluray gives us BOTH versions, it would be wonderful to be able to choose which one I was in the mood for whenever I wanted to watch it.

I will buy this DAY ONE, for sure.

I'll second this sentiment. I've only seen this theatrically when it first came out, liked it very much, and am curious to see the extended version (which sounds promising) but don't want to lose the ability to see the original release in HD.

Hopefully the Blu-Ray will give us both versions. However, if I had to guess, I'd assume Warner would go the Amadeus route rather than the Exorcist route...
