I picked this up today and will watch it later but I found some info on this for anyone interested. Here is the quote from a forum -
So, I was wondering lately what Stuart Gordon and Brian Yuzna were up to these days, so I looked them up on IMDB, and found out that Yuzna had directed a monster movie down in Indonesia called, AMPHIBIOUS. It's about a giant marine scorpion. I found a review, basically it says the movie is real bad, but the effects are pretty good. So far it has yet to be released in the states. By the way, Stuart Gordon is directing a musical version of RE-ANIMATOR. I shit you not. __________________________________________________ _____________________________________________ UNDEAD BACKBRAIN: We’ve met Amphibious before, though it was a brief meeting and you may not recall it. It’s a giant monster film made by genre veteran Brian Yuzna, who rose from the demise of Fantastic Factory to film under the auspices of firstly Halcyon Entertainment, then his own company Komodo Films, having been absent from the cinema as director since the not-overly-successful ghost flick Beneath Still Waters (2005). Previous directorial efforts, however, represent a major contribution to the Horror Film canon, and include the very weird Society (1989), the Re-Animator sequel Bride of Re-Animator (1990), the excellent Return of the Living Dead III (1993), and the just okay second Re-Animator sequel Beyond Re-Animator (2003). Since then, he has given us a series of diminishing returns in Faust: Love of the Damned (2000), the robo-dog film Rottweiler (2004) and the aforementioned Beneath Still Waters, though as “Creative Producer” on Paco Plaza’s Romasanta (2004) he had some input into one of the best, and least-known, werewolf movies of all time. The film is currently in post-production, was shot in Stereoscopic 3D, polarized for TH release in Real D / Dolby 3D and will also be available in anaglyph and interactive polarized shutter for video release. It is being distributed by Celcius Entertainment, with an announced release date of May 2010. So I guess it is native and its cheap! ![]() |

Sorry to hear about the 3D. They may have not thought out the 3D or tested it enough before filming began and had problems if the 3D looks off. I remember certain shots in Dredd 3D had a weird effect too which I think had something to do with the post editing of the 3D convergence (shifting the left right images to add more depth or reduce it, both with cropping of the frame).

Can`t expect too much from a low budget 2010 Dutch/Indonesian 3D production.
(first Dutch 3D production, filmed in summer 2009) THE FIRST EUROPEAN 3D STEREO FILM FESTIVAL (2010): Best Feature film: "Amphibious" ![]() 2012: "Dead Before Dawn" ![]() Inition were approached by Komodo Films to help with the filming of Brian Yuzna’s much anticipated Amphibious 3D. Komodo Films required a 3D specialist to a high quality stereoscopic experience and expertise in tough humid conditions on a low budget. Amphibious was shot in challenging conditions in Jakarta over a two month period. Inition’s Head of Production for the Asia Pacific, Markus Stone, was the lead stereographer and headed the 3D department. Markus commented, “This was a complex 3D shoot, and was produced in often challenging conditions including the Javanese jungle, on board a boat and in a studio that was a humid 36 degrees every day with the air conditioners turned on. It just goes to show that great 3D is possible on a budget.” Inition are delighted to announce that Amphibious 3D has been awarded “Best Feature” at the 3D Stereo Media European Film Festival in a competitive field of 48 entries. Criteria included 3D quality, understanding of 3D grammar, script and overall quality of the film and it was judged by a panel of industry experts including renowned Belgian Stereographer Kommer Kleijn. «Un-believe-it-able» Last edited by eriaur; 10-24-2013 at 01:07 PM. |

Well it's April of 2014 and I just bought this, loaded it up and blammo! The 3D was so bad I thought someone mucked around with some settings. After going through everything, there was no improvement. I put in a known good 3D disc (Star Trek:Into Darkness) and it also was unwatchable. I then reset the player and TV to factory settings, got the 3D working properly, then stuck in Amphibious once more... no change. Back to another 3d - perfect.
The 3D really sucks, but I'll watch the movie in 2d as my TV can do that. In the edition I have - 2013 Eagle Entertainment - there is no menu or settings. The movie starts immediately and there is no 2D version enclosed. If you believe what Inition wrote about the excellence of their 3D work, then the errors must have come in during mastering the disc. What a disappointment. |

Is this Amphibious? If so, isn't the 3D supposed to be terrible i seem to recall from the Amphibious thread. If it's not Amphibious please ignore this lol.
Edit: I see it is in the title. Last edited by levcore; 10-29-2014 at 02:35 PM. |

I just got this from Amazon. It's the German disc that says 'Amphibious 3D' on the cover and not 'Deep Water'. The disc says it's region B but plays just fine on my region A player. There's a few minutes of crap conversion at the beginning but the rest is native 3D. I've heard the 3D is poorly done/misaligned but i saw none of that. The 3D here is actually pretty good, not great but not horrible either. The acting is the worst part.

Saw this recently. 3-D was actually rather good in this!
There is a "found footage" sequence in the beginning which had weird 3D. I think it was 2D sequence converted hastily to 3D. It runs for few minutes. After that the rest of the movie has great 3D. Having said that, movie itself is rather ugly/uninteresting to look at. I found myself fast-forwarding most of it except for scorpion-monster scenes. Those were good. |

I also have the Australian disc, though I haven't watched it yet. When I originally watched the film in 3D it was a downloaded SBS version round at a friend's house on his plasma (this was before I had a 3D TV of my own). There were a few minutes early on where the 3D just didn't work (I recall it was hugely ghosty - and I'm not referring to the found footage) but otherwise it was excellent. Perhaps that was a rip from the Australian disc and the German version is properly mastered? Maybe I need to watch this on my OLED... |
