Default Fatal Games (1984) coming from Vinegar Syndrome

Quote:
No slasher has been more requested of us than Michael Elliot’s hood wearing, javelin hurling maniac thriller, FATAL GAMES (1984) and we couldn’t be happier to finally have the honor of presenting it on Blu-ray for the first time ever!

When a mystery killer with an excellent throwing arm begins brutally murdering would-be olympians with a javelin, its up to the surviving team members to unmask the assailant before they too are impaled!

From beginning to end, this trashy gem piles on the sleaze, with gratuitous shower scenes, bloody deaths, and an absurd final twist that has gone down in slasher history as amongst the genre’s most demented reveals.

Not only have we painstakingly restored FATAL GAMES from the best known film elements, but we’ve loaded on plentiful new first-time interviews with cast and crew!

directed by: Michael Elliot
starring: Sally Kirkland, Lynn Banashek, Sean Masterson, Michael O'Leary, Teal Roberts, Spice Williams-Crosby, Melissa Prophet, Angela Bennett, Nicholas Love
1984 / 88 min / 1.85:1 / English Mono

Additional info:
  • Region Free Blu-ray
  • Additional extras information coming soon...

Listing will be removed Sunday [September 24] at 11:59 PM EDT. Next purchase opportunity will be Black Friday 2023.

I'm sort of an outlier when it comes to Vinegar Syndrome Announcements as they rarely do much for me... this one though was something I've long heard about and checks all the boxes of what I'm looking for these days and so it was an instant pre-order. I'm very much looking forward to checking it out later this year.

This was my introduction to the film and it's long been sitting on my "Must Watch" list. (spoilers in the video)

I've never seen this either but I'm a sucker for 80s slashers, especially ones with an element of mystery. Hope it doesn't disappoint.

I'm really curious which art they'll go for on the reverse cover.

I hope it's this one:

No, that's all the other '80s slashers that still don't have blu-ray releases

I think so.

At the very least, it was one he was attempting to put out and never could.

This was an instant pre-order for me.

It's a pity that it's a print, but better than nothing.

I think certain films benefit from rough elements, adds a built in nostalgia and enhances the sleaze.

Bummer it's only a print. But the images on their site look MILES better than the VHS-rips on Youtube or Tubi. Death Screams was in a similar boat, and that Arrow blu was a revelation compared to any previous release. I'm just thankful it will now be PRESERVED in the best quality possible. Genuinely warms my heart.

Best annoucement out of the lot today!

Always liked the gold medal cover. Another biggie ticked off the 80s slasher list.

Vinegar Syndrome gave TWO reversible insert covers for Mountaintop Motel Massacre because it had so many great artworks... Would love if they did the same for this one (new art + classic art with the killer ; gold medal cover + bloody girl running cover). I say go all out!

I never understood why this one was so clamored for. Maybe it’s people just wanting what they can’t have. It’s easily in the top five most boring 80’s slashers. You watched 80’s slashers for two reasons. Nudity and kills. This one definitely has you covered in the nudity department, but as far as the kills go it’s one of the worst. Every kill is literally the same.

This film is such a blast and another favorite checked off the list. Wish they'd just used the art from my Media VHS for the slipcover though. I've always felt it's one of the best cover arts for any slasher. Top five at least.

Unavailability could be a factor. I've never seen the film so it'll be a blind buy but it's one of my most-anticipated blind buys ever. I'll finally be able to see for myself what all the fuss is about I gotta say though, every time someone describes a slasher film as boring (seems to be every time lol), I gravitate towards it more. I happen to enjoy slow, meandering horror films where there are stretches with people just talking or walking around exploring. In fact, I welcome that. Action films need to be lean and to the point, not horror films

I enjoyed Water Cooler Films 31 Days of Halloween! Like Monster Madness from CM. And I've never seen this flick so this is a blind buy for me. I'm sure it won't disappoint...too much.

Any idea what the limited slipcover print run will be on this?
VS website hasn’t made any mention that I can find.

Any educated guesses?
