I am trying to pick between a couple blue underground movies..

My goal is to get them all eventually but right now i am looking at picking up The New York Ripper or Dead and Buried. I have never seen either so which one is better?

The best blu-ray undground film to get is The Holy Mountain. You have to get this!

I would suggest renting them first then deciding which one YOU like best. Asking someone else what movie you should buy is like asking someone to order dinner for you.

There both good films, but out of the two I would get Dead and Buried. Its a classic. Very creepy atmosphere.

Two different types of movies. NYR is an Italian, grimy slasher/mystery, very trashy and nasty. D&B is American, spooky, strange and mysterious -- more like something from Twilight Zone or Tales From The Crypt. Neither are humorous, either. I'd say watch the trailers on YouTube.

renting is always a good idea if you are on the fence about a BD. However I believe if the right person recommends a BD to you there is a great chance you will like it. People with similar tastes as I have recommended BD's and I bought because we both had a lot of BD's in common. Pale Flower and Johnny Mad Dog are 2 BD's I bought based on recommendations of forum members. I enjoyed them both and would never of bought had they not been pointed out to me.

As for Blue Underground BD's: they are not my cup of tea, so I don't think I would be the right person to recommend a B.U. BD's. There are a few I would watch, but I think the only one I have seen and it was on DVD 14 yrs ago was Uncle Sam

I totally agree on the recommended BD comment. I did watch both trailers
and i am going to order dead and buried. And thanks for the other recommendations. I will be looking into them.

It depends on wether you're more in the mood for gore & sleaze (NY Ripper) or atmospheric horror (D&B).

Looking at your collection, it seems that you will enjoy both movies. I would highly suggest getting both, but if you can only afford one, I would say to go for Dead and Buried.

Edit: Saw you ordered Dead and Buried. Good choice.

If you're in the mood for something thats sleazy and brutal as all hell get The New York Ripper...it delivers. Dead and Buried is great too though...more of a subtle plot driven movie from the "town with a dark secret" sub genre. It's also worth mentioning that City of the Living Dead and Inferno are in my opinion, they're best releases yet.

City of the living dead is high on my list as well.

Yeah it's weird because upon it's release their was a lot of praise for blue underground's work on the transfer. But since then I've heard a lot of complaints about the grain structure being to heavy and noisy. Something about the way they scan their transfers using LVR (not really sure what that is). But anyways, it still looks fantastic to me...even if it's not quite perfect. Every time I've watched it I'm wowed by the texture.
