Sweden Universal catalog titles from Majeng Media

Majeng Media will release a bunch of Universal catalog titles on Blu-ray in february. A few re-releases but most of them will get their first Blu-ray release in the nordic region. Great news and hopefully more to come.

According to listings on CDON.SE more titles are on the way in March. My guess is that they are from the same distributor, Excalibur Media.

Death Becomes Her
Dragnet
Field of Dreams
Howard the Duck
Patch Adams
In the Name of the Father

Great to see more classic movies on the format. I hope they continue with a few titles every month.

Very good news. A few of the titles are basically re-releases that we got on Blu-ray from Universal before, but I’m very excited for the rest. Nice selection of genres and movies.

I have now watched two of the movies from the first wave and it is safe to say that they are not the best transfers, however I believe they are the same transfers as released in other markets before.

Twins have one of the worst transfers I have ever seen on Blu-ray - very soft and grainy with a lot of noise, dirt and other artifacts. Kindergarten Cop is a bit better - but still a very long way from perfect.

I also quickly checked the ”For love of the game” disc, since I know it originally had a better transfer and from what I can see so far it looks good.

I really hope they pick releases going forward based on how good the original transfers from Universal look.

Having watched a few more of these releases I thought I'd share my thoughts on the video quality. It's quite clear to me now that these are the same transfers as released before in other markets.

For Love Of The Game. Looks quite good. A bit uneven where some shots are really good and some are a bit softer. A solid HD presentation.

Dragnet. Very nice transfer. Strong, vivid colours and great detail. The best transfer of the ones I've seen so far.

Death Becomes Her. Solid Picture Quality with a few issues. Quite a lot of grain and some of the darker scenes are a bit murky.

Where’s the best place to buy these? (That hopefully ships internationally)

Also is Problem Child 3 actually listed as a Blu-ray? That’s nuts.

They are all listed for pre-order on CDON and Ginza but I don’t believe either of those stores do international shipping.

I bet that they will eventually show up on Discshop and other stores as well. I do believe they ship internationally to some degree.

And yes, Problem Child 3 is listed as Blu-ray.

Do these have English subtitles? The covers don't list it, but that's many times the case with Scandinavian covers even though English subs are actually on the disc.

These releases do not have english subtitles, but there is the option to watch the movies without subtitles.

Seems like they don't use lossless audio in any of their releases, what a shame...

They use 384 kbps for DD 5.1. Why on earth while there are several free GBs still available on those 25 GB discs? Even LPCM would probably fit and doesn't require any licenses. They truly must love that freaking Dolby Digital.

Just to let everyone know. The two latest releases from Excalibur Media, "The Great Waldo Pepper" and "Bend of the River" both seems to have DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. At least it is stated on the back of the cover art. So it seems like they have listened to the critique regarding the audio.

Rumble Fish has DTS-HD MA 5.1 too, in the back of the cover and in the disc (verified).
