Forgot the title of a game and it consumes me

Years and years ago I was an avid gamer. Mostly on PC.

There was this game with amazingly gory sound effects. Every piece of meat that exploded or hit the pavement had its own sound.
I used these effects when I made my first snowman destruction video (no it's not on youtube... yet )

I was trying to find it, but it seems I don't have it anymore and I don't remember the title.

All I can say that it might have been released around 2003, 2004 or 2005.

You are a dude that has to battle evil forces yeah yeah that doesn't give you much of a direction.

From what I can gather it was situated in either eastern Europe or somewhere nearby.
Reason I say this is because I remember old houses and lotsa cobblestone streets. Everything was narrow and old looking.

I think it played in the middle ages or a tad later as I don't remember modern guns.

And that's all about I could think of.
I thought it was Painkiller for some odd reason, but from what I have seen on youtube it doesn't look like it is it. Also because of the modern weapons used.

Hopefully you guys can help me out... and if not I'll be consumed
