I'm really looking forward to this release, although I've strayed away from comic books in the last few years I generally like the comic book movies (at least the Marvel & Batman ones) and I skipped this one at the theaters.

Also really looking forward to The Avengers and Spider-man next year.

FANTASTIC movie and day 1 buy for me. Man, Marvel has been hitting it out of the park with their movies while DC can't develop a decent movie past Batman. Hopefully this new Superman movie will change that although I have been let down by Superman before.

Although to be fair DC animated movies and Blu rays are AMAZING.

Let's hope that when all these Marvel movie contracts expire and they are all housed in the House of Mouse that the quality of these Marvel movies don't diminish as well.

My understanding is the rights pretty much never expire, as long as they keep making movies featuring the characters, so as great as it would be to see Marvel making movies with any and or all of their characters it isn't likely to happen.

Also I clicked the link in the first post and I really hope Amazon and others reduce that price before it's release cause that right there is above the amount I'm willing to spend on a movie. Pretty sure they will but just saying I experienced serious sticker shock there.

What I mean is that when the contract runs out with the current studios that house the many different Marvel movies. Previously Paramount handled Iron Man, Sony handled Spiderman etc.. but I am sure when those contracts run their course they will all fall back under Disney who owns Marvel and my worry is that with one studio responsible for ALL the Marvel Universe movies that they will either be fewer and further between or there will just be a lack of quality due to everyone working under Disney.

Right but in the comic press the belief is that the contracts are written in a way that the movie studious who bought the rights own them perpetually as long as they keep producing movies with those characters so Sony will always be producing a Spider-man movie, Fox will always be producing a X-men movie and so on. At least that is my understanding of how the contracts were written though I am no expert on such things and have never seen one of these contracts myself.

I think Thor was also obscenely overpriced when it first appeared on amazon, so I'd imagine this one will go down too.

I agree. There is no release date listed. Usually, when they get a release date, it drops some and then drops some more release week.

'There are two kinds of contracts. There are those made before the creation of Marvel Studios (Spiderman for Sony, Fantastic Four and X-Men for Fox, Hulk for Universal) and those made after (Iron Man, Thor for Paramount, distribution only). I get the impression that the first contracts keep going until the studio gives up on the character (that explains Spiderman's reboot and the neverending series of X-Men movies). The ones made with Paramount ara about to cease. Captain America, I guess, was the last one. Disney negotiated with Paramount an end to the contract. They gave Paramount some money and in exchange will distribute The Avengers and Iron Man 3. And from then on, Disney will take over future Marvel productions.

It is a bit messy, but I guess this was the way Marvel found to fully explore its properties. What surprises me is that DC, which doesn't have this kind of stuff (it is all Warner, since DC belongs to Time-Warner), can't make their heroes right in the movies (Batman is the exception, of course).

Day One buy for me. Captain America the First Avenger was a great comic book movie that nailed all the basic elements that a Captain America origin story should have. The hero is heroic, the villian is dasterdly, he saves the day, kisses the girl, and there is plenty of kick ass World War II action along the way.

The 3D presentation was an enhancement but also did show some limiations of a conversion. It was proceeded by a Native 3D trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man which was some of the best 3D Ive ever seen and the converted feature that followed didn't quite match up. Some shots look a bit flat. However 3D packed a punch when it really needed to and if you have the equitment I would definutely give the 3D presentation a watch

Just ordered thru blu-ray.com! I'm hoping that $50 price drops to $30, although I think it will finally end up in the $34.99 to $39.99 range.
Never saw it in the theatre, so I can't wait to see it in the HT.

$49.49 amazon's current price I have been pre-ordering all the 3D titles lately but I am going to have to wait on this one til they bring the price down some. Odd they even posted that title at the list price.

I agree, it's a very high "initial" price.
You can alway preorder now, wait & see how/if the price fluctuates...and if it's not to your liking you can always cancel. That's the beauty of Amazon. Even if the price drops for 1 day, you're locked in at that lowest price.

Edit: Actually that makes me wonder: Since I order most of my BD's thru blu-ray.com's link(so they can earn a little off my purchases) would blu-ray.com get a kickback on the final sale price(I would think) or the initial preorder price? Mods feel free to clarify!

50 bucks for this movie? No frigin way! Gotta be a typo... any one pre-order this yet? I'll give up 30 bucks at the most and not a nickle more. Damn prices on 3D keep going up and up, not to mention 2D versions keep going up too. What the hell is going on here? Why are the prices going up? You would think the prices on blus would drop and not climb.

I agree with you. This price tag totally sucks.

Heck yes I preordered this 3D version! If the price doesn't go down to, what I feel is, a reasonable level...I'll cancel. Until then, I can sit back and see if there are any 1day drops that I'll qualify for having preordered.
No matter how bleak the situation, there's always a silver lining!

Without an official announcement from the studio, any price from Amazon or any retailer is more than likely just a placeholder. No need to worry, there is no way this is going to be anywhere near the price. It will end up 25-35 like every other solicited title on the schedule, I'm sure.

Right with you. Pre-ordered as well but if it does not lower to my price point, I will definitely cancel my order before it ships and wait for the eventual better deal...

I have a hard time believing this won't drop down to the $30 range come release date. I placed my preorder, the price will definitely come down some.
