My jaw hit the floor when I saw this in the email. Never thought we'd see these on 4K - classic westerns in general have been very underrepresented on the format. Cannot wait for this!

Same. I thought this was a Blu-ray release, until I saw the page details.

I already have the great Indicator set, but 4K + HDR ensures I’ll be getting this one too.

Goddamn, I just ordered the Mill Creek set a week ago but turns out amazon haven't shipped my copy yet. Just cancelled it. I've never seen any of these but been dying to. How are the other Randolph scott movies in the Mill creek set, worth owning?

Very cool boxset and I'm happy to see they didn't just release them on standard bluray but went the extra mile with 4K DV

Omg, this is 200$ CAD before shipping on Unobstructed view. How frigging ridiculous is that price? I'm very excited about this but no way is this double the Bruce Lee box set, even if these are in 4k, Jesus!

Edit: i can even get the Indicator out of print edition for 50$ less than this! And i thought those prices on ebay were insane.
At this point i'm just hoping there's a blu ray only version at less than 120$....

I've definitely watched Ride Lonesome and The Tall T and both are great.

It’ll for sure drop to way cheaper on Amazon at some point. Just gotta keep your eyes on it but usually Criterion 4K can pop up for a decent price

Yeah. I was all ready to buy this day one but at this price i guess i'll have to wait.
Edit: i went back and reordered the Mill Creek set. As someone else said, it has 7 more movies and it was 20$ on amazon. If I fall in love with these, I might buy the Criterion set down the line but at this price, it's just too much for a blind buy. Plus, imo the indicator set looks a lot nicer with a really cool booklet and it features the original artwork. Hopefully with this new release coming out, the prices for the indicator set goes down on ebay.

It has some odd rights issues plaguing it, different studio compared to their other collaborations.

I've been waiting for 7 Men From Now for a long time too. It's definitely my favourite of the Scott/Boetticher films.

The five films in this set are owned by Sony, whereas 7 Men From Now is with Paramount. Sadly, whenever 7 Men From Now gets put out on blu-ray, I suspect it will be a really dated master like with Paramount's releases of Gallipoli and Young Sherlock Holmes.

I was thinking of grabbing the Mill Creek set for the longest time, I might still since more movies and cheaper (just to see if I like these enough as I've only watched Tall T). But how's the picture quality on them? Very old transfers or similar to Indicators?

And Criterion's set says its a new 4k scan or did Indicator release 4k restorations on bluray?

WOW! This is such an incredible announcement!

Recently, when looking into the Boetticher-Scott Westerns, I read that there seemed to be even better masters available than the ones used by Indicator for their Five Tall Tales box set, and in 4K. I assumed that a UHD box set of these films was a pipe dream, considering that even the likes of Criterion still shy away from films that are not part of the AFI or Sight & Sound top 100 lists and that Sony have not yet licensed their 4K masters out to boutiques for UHD releases. So today's announcement of a "The Ranown Westerns: Five Films Directed by Budd Boetticher Starring Randolph Scott" set by Criterion is a very welcome surprise. I will very much be looking forward to this release. I hope this means more Sony UHDs are to come from boutique labels. I for one would love to see UHDs of "The Lady from Shanghai" or "The Big Heat", as well as some of the Brandos and the not yet re-released films from the Columbia Classics box sets.

My only point of criticism of this Boetticher-Scott set is the cover. While I like the style they are going for here, I do not understand why they have pasted the same publicity still five times instead of taking a different one for each film. Nevertheless, still very excited of course.
