Default 2nd Gen Toshiba Delayed

Looks like Sony and Pioneer are not the only one's experiencing delays...

http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/15/t...ayed-worldwide

Just doesn't make any sense to me that you'd debut a 2nd gen player that's double the price of the 1st model. Just seems backwards, IMHO. If anything, it almost screams "This is what we should have released the first time around"!

I guess you get what you pay for...

It's still going to be using 2003 era laptop parts so no, you certainly won't be getting what you pay for at a grand MSRP for that Toshiba.

^^ See links.

Ask Robert Zohn and some of your other fellow HD-DVD zealots. It's been bandied about on AVS and a few other boards for the last couple of months.

^^ Check this lengthy thread. Mentions of it come up in there as well and links and the rest of it.

I thought this was common knowledge by now. It certainly was the impression I've had since these things were announced.

If you can bring me concrete and authoritative word that indicates otherwise and that the A2 and XA2 are not using any laptop and PC parts like the A1 and XA1, let's see it.

Anything based on a Core Duo or Core 2 Duo chip would be fine IMO. There's nothing inherently better in a SoC design.

I'm wondering what Broadcom (if they stick with the BCM7xxx series) chip they will use.

I think the weak link may be the linux kernel stuff that they are using but that's a wild guesstimate.

This is great news for HD DVD!

BTW: Core2 products are few and far between (& expensive) to be used as excess parts (read: to be used in devices other than REAL laptops and desktops).

This will be key for the player...

Hey - why are we discussing HD DVD players...?

Actually I was thinking about both. I'm excited for what the BCM7440 will do for Blu-ray as well.

LOL! Hahahaha. I disagree 100%.
