An over-the-hill ex-golfer, fired from his job, sees hope in coaching a troubled teen prodigy after his wife leaves him, staking his future on the youth's success.

It's an enjoyable show because of Owen Wilson's charm, but the mom [Elena] while good looking she's like nails on a chalkboard with the attitude she has. Why would they do that to her character, man.

I 100% agree with you about the mother.

I just caught up with the first 4 eps tonight and I have to say that it is a pretty good show except there are things that are just not working. Most of which is the mother and sons attitude! (Spoilers incoming for the first 4 eps)

[Show spoiler]First she fleeces Owen Wilson out of 100 grand, then she is demanding and rude to him, even though he paid her that money.

The scene for me that REALLY made me not like her very much was after Marc Maron gets out from being trapped in the bed, he apologizes to her for the way he talked to her (which wasnt that bad to begin with) and then told her why he is on edge (cuz it is the first time he has taken a trip in the RV since his wife passed) and her response was "that doesn't excuse how you talked to me." That to me was just a complete C bag response and solidified my, I dont know if hatred is too strong a word, but definitely distaste for her. I dont know if that is intended or just bad writing? But to dig a ditch for the character like that makes it hard to come back and make her a genuinely likeable character.

It seems fairly obvious they are setting up some sort of romantic entanglement for her and Marc Maron, so we'll see how that plays out.

As for the kid, again, he just is being written and played like an entitled annoying brat. I get that he is a 17 year old kid or whatever but they could have written him a bit better than the cliche they have. Especially how he reacted to being COACHED by Owen Wilson. He shut down cuz his father used to yell at him. Okay sure. But what Owen Wilson did was NOT outside the parameters of what a coach would say to their student. Maybe im just out of touch with today's youth and they are all soft and can't take criticism?!

Then they introduce the new girl, girlfriend, caddy,, and her whole Schtick is just grating. She said that Owen Wilson is using him as his golden goose, without acknowledging the fact that he paid dudes mom 100 grand of his own money!

Hopefully it all comes around by the end of the season and maybe the mom uses that 100 grand for something that actually helps out the whole team and every side character quits being annoying!

And that may sound like i hate the show, but I really dont. The relationship with Owen Wilson and Marc Maron is excellent and I want more of that as is the relationship with Wilson and Judy Greer.

It's no Ted Lasso or Shrinking as those are 2 shows I have 0 complaints about.

I want this show to be good because when you have Wilson and Maron (and Greer) on the screen, it's genuinely great

^Those same things are bothering me as well but I am still enjoying the show.
