Default Denon Audyssey Editor App

What are you thoughts and experience with this app?
$19.99 from the app store, is it worth it? Does it help you with tweaking your Denon settings(or should I ask, if you like what it does)?

I'm a little underwhelmed with with the output settings. Maybe this app will help me love it, instead of only liking my Denon.

Per my sig, I have the Denon avr-x6700h

I ignored this app for a while because in a world of $1 or free apps it costs $10 or more (I don't remember.)

But, you really shouldn't use Audyssey without it. My system sounded better without Audyssey before I bought the app.

The app lets me do 2 things.

1- Turn off Mid Range Compensation. This is an intentional dip in the correction curve. This should be defeat-able without the app but it's not.

2- Limit Audyssey corrections to 300Hz. Higher frequencies are better left to the native capabilities of my speakers.

It's also good at saving and loading configurations.

I think I like everything you said about it, especially:

That was one thing I hated about running configurations, what if I like the previous 2 or 3 more then what I have now. I know Configs can be saved, but if the app makes it easier at retrieving and comparing, then it maybe worth it.

I absolutely love this app and have found it invaluable since I've had my 4500. It helped me diagnose a blown tweeter as soon as I added a used pair of monitor 9s to my setup. One look at the graphs on initial setup told me everything I needed to know

It is a bit of a gateway drug as I currently have a miniDSP and UMIK-1 on their way to me and have been watching REW youtube videos all day.

I want to get there .... Using REW someday.

I think the App would really help when used in conjuction with it.

I've definitely received my money's worth from just the shear fun of playing around with the app. More practically, the ability to save and load different curves based on changing parameters led me to my preference for as flat a curve as possible..so mid range compensation turned off.

While I'm very happy with the results, I'm skeptical about just how perfect the app claims my final AUDESSEY enhanced (RED CURVES) results are. I'm confident that the green curves based on 8 position measurements are accurate but am aware that the red curves are an estimate. The green curves reveal that my all PARADIGM setup is relatively flat to begin with so little room correction needs to b applied.

I've purchased a UMIK-1 that will arrive tomorrow at my house. I have a miniDSP that will arrive (along with a SPYDER5 for my JVC projector) tomorrow at my in-laws place in Florida. As they are not returning to Toronto for another month, I'll have plenty of time to use the mic with REW and make myself crazy comparing the results with the AUDYSSEY app.

Hopefully, one corroborates the other above 80hz. Below that, I've had to do a lot of guess work between my 4 subs ,transducers and the DENON/AUDYSSEY apps 2 sub out limitation. Again, I've been able to come up woth a pretty pleasing low end but can't wait to tinker with the new toys. I'm particularly intrigued by this...

Would mid-range compensation really make much audible difference in a modest living room setup? It'd literally be the only reason I'd be interested in buying the app.

I don’t know. I just have a theater type setting.

I haven’t actually compared it on and off. I could tell you if I notice a difference.

I think it may be good on some systems. There was a good reason they added it.

I mostly wanted to limit auydessey to lower frequency because I could certainly hear it having a bad effect on high frequency before I bought the app. That’s why I preferred it off before.

I don't know about the app but, I calibrated my speakers with the Denon Audyssey mic and stand that was included with the A/V receiver, and I didn't like the results at all. Everything was too low, and the subwoofer LFE couldn't be heard at all. So, I re-adjusted all the speakers back to my personal preference. The app may do a better job than the mic.
