Default Watch Out We're Mad! (1974)

This is an open letter to the good people of Finland.

Does anyone own this fine Finnish release of one of the greatest comedy films ever made?

If so, what's the picture quality like? Is the audio any use and.....most important of all, is the English track the same English track we Terence Hill and Bud Spencer fans would likely all know and love?

Example: "Not the arm! I need it!" and other such beauties as "Get out or I'll splat ya!" and "Get outta my way!" etc.

I have the German disc from the Bud Spencer Jumbo XXL box set but the disc is German and Italian audio only. Its nowhere near as fun, even with the English audio subtitles played via USB on my UB820.

What is shipping like from Finland to the EU? Do i need to write a letter to my bank and take out a home equity release loan and sell a kidney on the dark Web?

I bloody love this film. It leaves me roaring, crying with laughter every time I watch it. A nice HD disc with the English audio track would be fantastic! Thanks for the help.

EDIT: by the way, a little tip for eagle eyed viewers that I spotted for the first time ever watching the German Blu Ray. The opening sequence at the amazing car rally (what a spectacle, and brilliant stunt drivers). Watch the very start of the race as all the cars come over the hill as the music starts. One of the cars rear windscreens comes flying out and nearly takes someone out. Don't think that was planned for!

I have this edition, so can confirm that it does have the English dub track on it, as well as the option to turn off the Scandinavian subtitle, but it comes at a bit of a cost.

There are two transfers of the film out there, and the Dicke Box one is the better of them. The Scandinavian edition uses the other, which has a green-ish cast over the image, and the contrast isn't as good.

Awesome thank you!

Need to find a copy to buy now. I'll probably buy it, rip the audio out and mix it to the German disc from the Jumbo XXXL set.

It's actually published by a Danish, not Finnish, company for the Nordic market.

An absolute classic. I think with the 20 disc box set and the added on Jumbo XXXL box set, that's pretty much every film they did together perhaps?

I also have Terence Hill's breakout attempt Mr Billions on Laserdisc, with Valerie Thingy bob. Forget her name now, she was in loads of stuff. Good film, fairly fun stuff.

Watch Out We're Mad! is my favourite though, it just never gets old and makes my sides hurt with laughter on every viewing. Timeless classic. Who Finds A Friend Finds A Treasure is another favourite of mine too. That's in the 20 disc box if I remember right, I'll have to check.

I'll just leave this here...

Here's a trailer for this release, it might help in judging the image quality.

Terence Hill & Bud Spencer in WATCH OUT WE'RE MAD - Nordic ON DEMAND - NEW HD Trailer - YouTube
That's great, thank you!

I'm going to get the disc anyway because of the English audio track. That's the real gold right there.

In the car race: "Put me down! We're near the finish!"

At the fairground: "Get outta the car or I'll splat ya!"

"What did he say?:

"He said he has to splat us"

"Then I guess we better do what he says..."

*terrified man gets out of his car*

"N-n-no splat!"

VRRRROOOOOOMMM!!!!!

The gym fight. Oh my God!

Absolute God tier S Rank++ level comedy gold right there. There will never be another duo like those two.

Sorted!

Snagged a copy from Future Shop Finland. They sell on eBay and its in stock but more expensive. Ordered direct from their Web site where its out of stock but cheaper by about €6 Inc shipping, which was very reasonable considering. It'll take as long as it takes I suppose. No rush!

The Scandinavian Blu arrived today. I ripped it to an MKV, did the same with the German Blu from my Jumbo XXXL box.

Here's a screenshot from MediaInfo comparing both mkv files, solely the fields that differ, the rest of the fields are identical data and are hidden.

Also I didn't screenshot the non-DTS-HD Italian track, didn't see the point.

You can see though that there is a huge difference between the files. The German disc is clearly better data & bits wise in my opinion. Only problem is the German disc has a horrible 'Tobis' logo for 6 seconds at the start, I was hoping it was a separate disc chapter. It throws the whole mkvmerge/audio synce right off.

I tried an audio delay of 5000-6000ms in mkvtoolnix but it doesn't help, the audio seems to drift out of sync as the file progresses. Very annoying as I just wanted to replace the Italian audio with the prized English audio track.

Might have to call it quits and just live with the inferior Scandinavian picture quality. It's definitely got a green tint to it that's for certain.

Main thing is I have the treasured English audio at least.

Different framerates, DE 23.976 vs Nordic 24.000. That'll do it, I guess.

Good point. Could well be that. Also the English audio track sounds like it is in an entirely different key, slightly faster too, only ever so slightly.

A shame it didn't work out, but I at least have two copies of a great film in HD, with that all-important English track which was my goal in the first place, just to have it to watch.

Oh, one thing I did try was getting the English subtitles and syncing them to the Italian audio track. It didn't work out though for a couple of reasons though. The English track has extra dialogue thrown in everywhere that the Italian track just doesn't have. So the dubbers were taking liberties with the script on a massive scale it would appear.

On the other hand, the clearly English-speaking parts end up being all over the place because of the subtitles. It just doesn't work. It makes me wonder if this was recorded in Italian or English natively? Regardless, it would take some serious work to make an 'ultimate edition' of sorts. It's just not worth it in my view. As it stands I think there is room here for a label to step in and offer a decent encode with decent colour grading and in English audio.

Any takers?

What is even native recordings in older Italian films?
Despite Hill's fluency in Italian and English, he was usually dubbed by other actors in both languages. In the Italian versions of his films, various actors provided his voice until the late 1960s, where he was primarily dubbed by Sergio Graziani; he was voiced by Pino Locchi from 1970 to 1983, and by Michele Gammino from 1983 to 1996. For English dubs, Lloyd Battista dubbed him in six films, while Roger Browne dubbed him in most of his early 1970s films (They Call Me Trinity to A Genius, Two Partners and a Dupe); from Mr. Billion onward, Hill dubbed his own English voice.
Spencer was generally dubbed by actor Glauco Onorato in the Italian versions of his films due to his thick Naples accent, although he was voiced by Sergio Fiorentini in Troublemakers. For English dubs, Spencer was usually voiced by Robert Sommer, Edward Mannix or Richard McNamara, although he occasionally provided his own voice.

Saw this at a drive-in theater back in the day, but I was too little to appreciate it and mostly played on the monkey bars in front of the screen instead!

Yeah. It's a "classic" Soul Media release. I'm not surprised that the German release is miles better.

A bunch of Bud Spencer & Terence Hill movies were released on UHD (with English audio) in France this year, I just found out about it today:
