Default L.A. Law Reboot in Development

L.A. Law Reboot in Development

Quote:
Steven Bochco is looking to reconvene L.A. Law.

The prolific producer is developing an updated version of his classic ’80s legal drama, which ran for eight seasons on NBC, our sister site, Variety, reports.

During an interview on the Rich Eisen Show on Monday, Bochco revealed that four months ago L.A. Law scribe Bill Finkelstein approached him with an idea for a reboot. “I called my friends at [20th Century Fox], because they own the show, and they were very interested in having a conversation,” said Bochco. “And so Billy and I sat down and we sort of reconceptualized what L.A. Law would look like and be about over 30 years later… [and Fox] was very enthusiastic about doing it. So we’re developing [it].”

It'll just be another law show with a recognizable name. Pointless.

NBC aired the original show back in the 80's, but it might be tough for them to buy into this now. Chicago Justice, lawyer spinoff of Chicago PD, is airing early next year. I just don't think in the crowded TV environment we have in 2016 that 1 network could have enough viewers for 2 law dramas.

I have to agree about this reboot. I just don't see this one taking off. L.A. Law was unique for its time because it didn't use any of the familiar "court-based drama" formats that currently exist. Personally, I don't see Chicago Justice being any different either. These police procedural or "courtroom drama" shows all use the same format and don't even bother to differentiate themselves from each other. Even every version of Law and Order uses the same format, there is no uniqueness.

Reboot? H*ll, why can't they make the old show (seasons 5 through 8) available on DVD or Blu-ray?

Yeah, pretty much this. It’s amazing these shows draw enough viewership to sustain themselves. So we need another one?

The original LA law had some interesting characters and just worked. But that was back then. Guess we’ll see but I dunno.
