This has definitely happened more than a few times over the years. Especially in the early days of DVD when companies were throwing all kinds of crap on those budget sets.
Some I remember… Night Train to Terror: This made it on a bunch of budget sets, but I noticed it got pulled from later printings of at least one set. Monster Dog: A terrible VHS transfer was included in some budget sets. I think the copyright holder piped up pretty quick about it though. Jack the Ripper: The Klaus Kinski version. The butchered and ugly print of it released years ago might actually be public domain. Although I doubt it as it’s been years since I’ve seen it on a release. Also, I’m not sure if they thought it was public domain, planned on including it then bailed when they found the rights were too expensive or pulled it from later editions. Anyway I have that 200 Tales of Terror Mills Creek box set. It claims to have Forbidden World (1982) on it. But that film is nowhere to be found on the set. |
