Default My Hero Academia (Live-Action)

Shinsuke Satō to Direct Hollywood Live-Action Film Adaptation of My Hero Academia

Entertainment news sources Variety and Deadline reported on Friday that Shinsuke Satō (live-action Bleach, Alice in Borderland, Kingdom, Death Note Light up the NEW world, Gantz, I am a Hero) is directing Legendary's Hollywood live-action film adaptation of Kōhei Horikoshi My Hero Academia manga.

Alex Garcia and Jay Ashenfelter are overseeing the project for Legendary Entertainment, while Ryōsuke Yoritomi, the manga's editor, will oversee the project for Shueisha. TOHO will distribute the film in Japan.

I binged seasons 1-4 because a friend practically begged me to. There was 2-3 memorable fights and some decent episodes. Most of the characters suck and I see why the series appeals to a younger audience, it is very kiddy. I've heard season 5 has been terrible so far and that's all the reason I need not to continue watching the series.

*I take that back, I did not finish season 4. Once they started doing some sort of school musical I completely dropped off. The back half of the season was terrible and I was out.

This is a terrible idea, but like most announced live action anime adaptations, it likely won't even get made anyways. MHA is pretty decent. Good, but not the god-tier anime its fans make it out to be. It's a fun little x-men type series for the kids its made for. It has plenty of dumb anime cliches that knock it down, but so do almost all anime productions.

At least they got a Japanese director for this! Plus Legendary has had a good track record with films based on Japanese properties (Detective Pikachu, Monsterverse)

Or every time Bakugo or another character props themselves up by putting someone else down. You'll be plastered to the floor by the end of the episode.

Same here. Didn't really get past the first episode (not to say it was bad).

Always thought it was a bit of a 2nd-rate One Punch Man.

Bakugo may actually be my most hated anime character of all-time. He has absolutely no redeeming qualities, and his backstory is embarrassingly stupid. He's just an angry git who yells about murdering people all the time. He belongs in a psych ward, not a hero school. I genuinely don't understand how people like him. I was baffled when they revealed the reason that he hates Deku so much was that Deku was nice to him one time. Like... what? Bakugo is so up his own ass he couldn't handle a quirkless kid being nice to him? And that's it? That's all we're getting? Even Draco Malfoy had a more sympathetic backstory.

Not seen the anime, but considering how Anime adaptations go and from what I know from the anime, they might just get away with this one, seems suitable enough for a Hollywoodization.

I was about to say the same thing. My friend who told me to try out MHA loves Bakugo and says he's his favorite character of all time. I don't understand it. He's not quite as annoying as Zenitsu and Inosuke from Demon Slayer but he's damn close.

I like All Might. I wasn't expecting to but he's a pretty good character. Todoroki is my favorite.

Icy hot's father is basically an adult Bakugo, I'm positive that's not an accident.

Surprised to see so many here that don’t like the series. I didn’t consider watching it for awhile because I though it world be mostly high school drama and a little superhero stuff. I found it to be the other way around with much more superhero stuff. That said, I’m not really looking forward to a live action Hollywood version.
