I'm currently watching on Paramount+. Quite like it. I'm glad to see them bringing their originals to Blu-ray.

I just finished it last night and feel the same way. It's the first time in nearly 20 years that a Star Trek show has felt like Star Trek.

Very excited for this release. Will have to see what the art for the standard and steelbook releases are before I decided which to get.I don't care as much for the Discovery steelbook's art and I get the standard releases.Picard is the opposite.Have gotten the steelbooks.

ETA

Wonder if this release will be offically announced on Star Trek Day which is 9/8,so later this week.

First: Day one.
Second: They should have done UHD 4K and ATMOS and taken more of my money.

I wonder if the release date will be the same as Disco S4? Pretty good day, holiday season and all with a few weeks still between it and Christmas day, good gift window.

Yeah I haven't seen it yet (waiting for Paramount+ to launch in Germany in December) but If I like it I have to make up my mind if I'll buy it on Blu-ray...
I mean what's the point if I have it already in better quality.

A UHD release on the other hand would be a day one buy!

Why did you have unrealistic expectations? Very few shows have made it to 4K.
That's not going to change. Some shows don't even get blu ray releases... or physical releases at all.

As the previous poster mentioned Halo is getting a 4k release and Star Trek is one of the biggest if not the biggest franchises Paramount has.

4K is still far and few between. Noting one show getting a release isn't indicative of anything... several shows getting a release would be.

What other shows of the Trek franchise have been announced for 4K?

Well, they just released the first 6 movies on 4k today. This is the first Star Trek series released digitally in 4k by Paramount so this would be their first opportunity to do so.

I realize that they released the movies. That's why I stressed the word shows.

I'm not trying to be difficult. I'm just being realistic. Paramount has been upgrading movies for their streaming service. Fortunately, unlike Disney, they are releasing these movies on disc, but the dynamic with shows is still different.

Franchises like Star Trek indeed would be where there would be a market for such releases, but so far, the format has been very slow and unlike previous format changes, we are now in a rapidly streaming world.

Realistic = Paramount milking Trek for every cent.

So if they think they can sell (or re-sell) the Trek TV shows in 4K -- they will do so.

It's not a matter of "they don't offer their TV shows in 4K disc..."

They would (and will) if there is money to be made.

Judging from these boards there is a TON of interest in TOS Seasons 1-3 on 4K (without DNR) around here.
