This film has a Region 1 US DVD release (Criterion, 2006) and a Region B UK DVD+Blu-ray Dual Format release (Eureka/Masters of Cinema, 2014), but there aren't any threads for this film yet. I watched Francesco Rosi's Many Wars Ago (1970) a few days ago and I was quite impressed by it, which is why I am now delving into his other works.
What do you think of the mentioned films or any of his other works? He seems to be underappreciated, but I am merely basing that on the lack of activity his film get on this forum. ![]() ![]() |

I have blus of The Moment of Truth, Hands Over the City and Three Brothers. Yet to see them, and have heard great things about The Mattei Affair and Christ Stopped at Eboli. Thank you for your post. A good reminder to check out The Moment of Truth which is the film that first drew me to Rosi.

Both Salvatore Giuliano and Hands Over the City are fantastic dramas, and two of the best Italian films I've seen to date. I'd really like to see The Moment of Truth, but not sure who has UK rights - StudioCanal have the European rights, it seems, so perhaps Indicator or someone could license it from them in the near future (would've been good to pair it alongside Bullfighter and the Lady).
Fingers tightly crossed we get some Rosi from Radiance Films. I think Illustrious Corpses seems pretty likely since it's an MGM title with a 4K restoration available, but I also hope they can swipe The Mattei Affair off Paramount too. Of course Christ Stopped at Eboli would be wonderful, but similar to The Moment of Truth, both could be tied up with Criterion (and smaller boutiques may not bother with titles already covered by such a huge label, even if they are Region A locked). Lucky Luciano might be worth pursuing if neither can be attained...let's wait and see! |

Would The Moment Of Truth pass uncut due to its bullfighting? I have the US Criterion and it's a great film. The Kino US releases of Lucky Luciano and Illustrious Corpses are both severely Ritrovataed so approach with caution.

I gushed on my Letterboxd review that Illustrious Corpses was one of the greatest films ever made shortly after watching it for the first time, watched a few times since and haven't really changed my mind. |

88 Films managed to release Lenzi's Knife of Ice recently which starts with some pretty explicit bullfighting sequences.

THE MATTEI AFFAIR and ILLUSTRIOUS CORPSES are both amazing films, and the more contextual material Radiance (if they ever released them) chucked into a booklet, the more striking and powerful you'll likely find them. Both dive in a scary way into real life political trauma and conspiratorial murders in Italy. Alex Cox recorded a really good commentary for the US Blu of the latter.
