There is some low pricing right now.
![]() Capture.jpg For Some reason Sausage Party incures a $3 shipping charge even on on order over $75. I emailed them to see if they could find a fix for that. Last edited by stantoine; 02-27-2020 at 02:09 PM. |

I ordered from them once on eBay. It took them six weeks to ship a single title and they never responded to any of my emails. I have no idea how they stay in business.

They send catalogs to older people. I have a someone that comes into my shop with a catalog and has me place orders for him. Many 60-80 year olds are still more comfortable ordering things from magazines.

Yes, I would think much like Hamilton, Oldies does most of their business this way. Back in the DVD days, they really had some crazy nice pricing on older titles.

Haven't bought from Oldies.com in almost a decade, but in the DVD era, they were kind of like a bigger version of Hamilton Books -- clearance DVDs and CDs. Got a lot of great deals on recently OOP and other clearance DVDS from them back then. The only two times I had a problem, the guy who handles their shipping picked up when I called and addressed my issues personally. So great phone customer service back then -- can't speak to now. Like Hamilton, they got into the Blu-ray game very late. It wasn't so long ago that Hamilton Books didn't want their deals promoted on Bluray.com because they were concerned they couldn't handle the volume. Oldies sells both new and clearance, so it's more the new prices that are causing the sticker shock. They do have free shipping on orders over $75.
They're part of the same company as the notorious Alpha Video DVD label, which has puts out tons of public domain movies and TV shows, though to their credit, many of them have never gotten another release. They also own the Collectibles music label. Last edited by noiradelic; 02-27-2020 at 09:30 AM. |

Tried to buy from them once when Shout Factory's edition of Swamp Thing went OOP, they had it listed as in stock for $19.99. I placed my order, got confirmation, they charged my ccard and then nothing. I waited for a few days kept checking the order status which just kept saying 'Processing'. Then a week goes by and I look at the listing which now says out of stock. So I emailed them and no response. Luckily my payment was via paypal so I was able to dispute the transaction but it still took a month before anything was resolved. So yes buyer beware on ordering from them. My first and only experience wasn't pleasant so I doubt I will order from them again. Needless to say because they often have OOP titles but can be had for a good price.

If an OOP deal seems to be way too good to be true, then they're probably out of stock. If it seems plausible that company's liquidating some very recently OOP titles, it might be for real.

I never had an issue with Oldies but its been over a year since I ordered from them. They had a bunch of weird 80s movies i wanted for a half-way decent price so it was a nice spot for that. Now there's not much on there I want but I do want a few of those garbage Alpha videos they have.

They still have some titles for decent prices, but it varies significantly. Also, I can’t imagine they’re doing great business today. A while back I ordered several copies of an obscure Asian movie as gifts for several friends for the holiday. Apparently it was enough of a boost to propel it to their top 10 best sellers list. And by a few friends I mean just that. Like 5 friends, not 30. I’m almost positive it was just my purchase that did it as this was not a new or anything popular release and the low stock counter had been sitting at the same number for at least a few days.
Add to that they must have some decent sized overhead. When I first ordered from them I bought one thing and then nothing else for at least a year. Yet, the whole time they were sending me those full color catalogs. And they must send out thousands. Even with mass production that must cost a decent chunk of change. It’s not a bad site and worth checking out. I imagine they must’ve cleaned up a lot more though in the early days of DVD. With Alpha Video selling public domain copies for like $20+ |
