vinegarsyndrome.com says 1984, although literally every other reference I can quickly find says 1987. It wasn't rated R until 1987, and that should be pretty definitive about a theatrical release in the U.S.

This is a real gem, it's been a favorite since I rented it when I thought I was renting the Danny Boyle flick. Great atmosphere and surprisingly grim, don't let the goofy opening minutes fool you.

Wow, the video transfer and the 2.0 audio are such a major jump from the original blu-ray, I'm blown away. Looks absolutely fantastic!.

As far as exploitation elements I'd say the same but this has a darker/more serious tone once it gets going with the murders. I like it better than Blood Games (but like both a films).

Boyle's best film by far is a real tour-de-force about a subject I had zero interest in - Steve Jobs. A pity Criterion have only released Shallow Grave by Boyle., an unedifying film about really dismal characters for whom a dismal end to their fortunes can't come soon enough.

Boyle himself has described the story as an unedifying one about dismal yuppie types. I didn't say it was a bad film. It just leaves a bad taste as it was intended to do. And I'm not even a lefty like Boyle.

I think what the previous is poster is getting at is that you're in the wrong thread. This is for the 1987 slasher film, not the Danny Boyle movie from the mid-90s.

Danny Boyle's Shallow Grave came out in 1994.

The Shallow Grave that you are in the thread for lists a release date of 1987.
