Exclamation Baahubali Blu-ray (Telugu)

BAAHUBALI - The Conclusion

Looks like there will be no Telugu Bluray for the biggest hit of all time in India. The studio and Rajamouli don't have time to worry about releasing Telugu Bluray for the viewers to have best experience at home.

Hoping for a 16:9 Blu-ray for Baahubali 2, that covers the whole screen with no black bars on top and bottom . This is possible because the cinematographer confirmed that the IMAX format was shown in 16:9 (read the quote below). The source is definitely available so any smart home video company authoring the blu-ray should make use of it and pick the larger aspect ratio (16:9).

"All the Indian films that we see are in the aspect ratio of 1:2.35 (Cinemascope). When we were shooting, we were framing each shot for both Cinemascope and IMAX format (16:9). When people will watch this film on IMAX, they will not have to compromise on the image size. The frame will not be cut from either sides. It’s a wider frame than Cinemascope. This means that if you watch it on IMAX, then you will see twenty percent more of the film’s information in each frame."

BAAHUBALI - The Beginning

While there is no official Telugu Blu-ray for Baahubali: The Beginning, you could order the German Blu-ray that has Indian runtime of 2hr 38min which has Telugu audio but no English subtitles.

Current price is 21 Euros on Amazon Germany which reduces a few Euros + shipping for purchases from outside Germany.
This is not available for sale on Amazon USA or any other website outside Germany.

It can be bought from Amazon Germany currently: http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B01CODOA1A?ie=UTF8

There are three discs as listed below:
Blu-ray #1 - International runtime (2hr 18min)
Blu-ray #2 - Indian runtime (2hr 38min)
DVD - International runtime (2hr 18min)

Screenshots: https://postimg.org/gallery/2hhw1q4fs/6bac70c8/
click on the thumbnail and then the image for 1080p

For full length movie watch the Blu-ray with Indian runtime of 2hr 38min and select Telugu Audio.
There are no English subtitles. There are German subtitles which can be turned off.
Note: You will need a region free Blu-ray player for TV, or you can use your computer to watch if you have a Blu-ray reader. Other options.

Not many people know the true aspect ratio of the movie Baahubali so I created this thread to get this to everyone's attention in order to get the Blu-ray released with full screen 1.78:1 aspect ratio. We never got to see the true aspect ratio in theaters, so they must release the Blu-ray with full screen 1.78:1 aspect ratio

Screenshots Comparision: (CGI vs. Real Movie)
The real movie screenshots obtained were from the trailer and all had black bars and you can clearly see how much is missed in the first screenshot comparison link below. All that CGI hard work from the VFX team, including the money spent will be wasted if the audience never get a chance to see it fully in full screen aspect ratio.

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/141533

I also shared this on twitter, so hopefully someone from the Baahubali team notices it https://twitter.com/ArtofVFX/status/638264612845191168

It's not just the trailer, even the movie when played in theaters is widescreen (2.35:1) aspect ratio. If they release the Blu-ray with 1.78:1 aspect ratio, this could be the first Telugu Blu-ray that is truly full screen covering the whole screen corner to corner and with no black bars.

The entire movie is shot with Arri Alexa XT and an aspect ratio of 1.78.1, but for any reason if it's not possible to have the entire 100% movie with the aspect ratio 1.78:1, then they should just make the Blu-ray that alters its ratio from 2.35:1 to 1.78:1 where available. Hollywood IMAX edition Blu-rays change their aspect ratio like this. Most Hollywood popular movies are releasing with 1.78:1 ratio anyway.

Also when Baahubali 2 is released where ever the theater supports it, Rajamouli should consider releasing the movie in the larger aspect ratio so we can see more of every scene. In USA most theaters support the larger screens. They will need to have the larger ratio for screens that support it and the normal widescreen ratio for the other screens. This is how Hollywood sends digitally or reels, they have different aspect ratios playing based on the theater.

The entire movie is shot with Arri Alexa XT and an aspect ratio of 1.78.1, supported by larger format premium theaters, with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. However many premium screens did not get the format that was intended as it was probably difficult to coordinate different aspect ratio for different theaters. Most theaters played it at 2.35:1 aspect ratio, which means you missed a significant portion of the movie as the video is cropped at the top and bottom.

1.78:1 is the same as 16:9. This means that Baahubali Blu-ray should use the original source at 1.78:1 which will cover the whole screen corner to corner with no black bars anywhere.

First full screen Telugu Blu-ray. Can't wait

I am trying my best getting them to listen to me through twitter although on one responded yet.

The more people request for it the better chances there are for it to be released with 1.78:1 aspect ratio. Send them messages on facebook and twitter.

I am willing to pay $10 extra if required for the 1.78:1 aspect ratio blu-ray. If they make a mistake and use the 2.35:1 aspect ratio which means black bars at top and bottom I will be very disappointed. It would be a complete waste by not taking full potential of the source. I can only imagine how Baahubali will look on my 110" screen at magnificent ratio of 1.78:1

It is still a suspense of who will get the Telugu Blu-ray rights. Its confusing because there are so many languages and various distributors. The good thing is that at least all the overseas rights for all languages is bought by Blue Sky Cinemas. I don't know this company much. Did they buy the entire overseas rights for any other movie in the past for which a Blu-ray has released. If yes, which home video company released it.

Baahubali deserves more than a regular Blu-ray. Hope it gets a special edition Steelbook.

Is the entire movie source in 16:9 or just the special effects parts?

Blame lies fair and square with the producers and director.

When it comes to Home Media releasing Indian Film industry turns lazy.

It's the way of the market. As long as TV stations are willing to pay, it'll almost certainly pay more for them to license that way than on home video. I'm just as sad that I don't own a Blu-ray of this film, or Enthiran, or "I", any number of other South Indian blockbusters, but film is a business, and if the TV stations make the producers sign exclusionary contracts, it is what it is.

This post is not related to the (possible) Blu Ray release of the film but I'd just like to know your (everyone reading this) opinion on the film ending in a cliffhanger.

Now I know this is a 2 part film and I'm not claiming that I've watched every movie ever released but in every movie which has a sequel or more than 1 sequel, I'm pretty sure none of them have had a ending in this manner. Sure there'll be some unanswered questions but in the end the director makes sure that the main plot of the film is solved and finished.

Imagine this - in Star Wars Episode 5, the director could have chosen to end the film during the moment that
[Show spoiler]Darth Vader was Luke's dad
was revealed and we would have our minds be in state of question as to whether Luke would join him or not before the release of the seuqel. Or in Batman Begins, Christopher Nolan could have chosen to ended it when they reveal that Ra's Al Ghul was not who Bruce thought he was or the fact that he's still alive. Something like that. It just seems like a cheap advertising trick to just make sure you come back and watch the sequel, the sort of stuff that they do in most Indian soaps, ending the daily episode with "To be continued".

Hope you understood what I said here. I wished he could have ended part 1 with the info on why Kattapa (Sathyaraj's character) killed the king and then left the other stuff to be filmed in the sequel. I'm saying this because I came out of the theatre pissed at Rajamouli for making me wait another 2ish years to know a small crucial piece of info that could have easily been revealed during the end minutes of the film.

That's part of the experience and pleasure of multi-part films. The cliffhanger that keeps you thinking about the ending.

But I've never seen a film that is a part of a multi-part film ending abruptly with a cliffhanger/plot twist. That's my point here. They always go through the plot twist and try to finish the film, not successfully at times. Do you get me?

As much as I like Baahubali, it is not one of the top 10 memorable movies for me. The story is not much as the focus was mostly on the battle scene. So although I did not like the way they ended the movie it did not piss me off. The ending for Avatar is a nice one, where the movie concluded but you know there is a sequel and you want to watch it. They did not plan to have two parts for Baahubali as the script was written for just one, this explains why they could not find a better point to end the movie and yet keep the audience interested for the second part.

As long as they release the part 2 by December 2016 i will be happy. They have to release by then as the director confidently included the year at the end of the movie for Part 2.

May be I will walk out of the theater for refund as soon as I find out why Katappa killed Prabhas and I don't like the reason.
Cineplex theaters actually issue refunds for the first 30 to 45 minutes of all movies. I once left after an hour later and they said they can't refund but gave me a free movie coupon. The reason I gave was the movie was very boring and depressing.

That's bending over backwards to please your patrons. If you watch the whole film and find it boring / depressing do they give you free popcorn and cola?

Who is still waiting for this

Seems like the producer, director and the home video companies forgot about this Blu-ray.
If the Blu-ray doesn't release, I will pirate Baahubali 2 in a year from now and save over $100 in theater costs. I will not let the movie make money from my pocket in theater if it doesn't think Home Video is important.

To be frank I lost hopes on Telugu movies getting released on Home Video (Either Blu-Ray/PPV). Not sure why they stopped releasing movies all of a sudden.
