Studio Canal are releasing Sang-Ho Yeon's Train to Busan, which will be the first Korean film any UK distributor has picked up in ages. Out of the two big Korean horrors from this year I would have preferred The Wailing, but I'll settle for this. The director made an animated prequel to this too, which comes out in Korean cinemas later this year, titled Seoul Station, so maybe that'll get a release too. They're Zombie films, which isn't exactly my favourite genre, but should be entertaining.

Yeah I still have my fingers crossed for The Wailing too (one of my most anticipated films), but will give this a watch at some point too. Not really into zombie films that much anymore but I've never seen a Korean one so there's that. Generally heard positive things about this from the festivals too.
If this wasn't a horror film I doubt StudioCanal would bother with Blu-ray. They've released several well-received Korean, Chinese and Japanese films on DVD only in the past. |

Well I ended up just preordering the US Blu of The Wailing from Amazon Canada, as I can get it priority shipped for half the price of the US Amazon, but I'll double dip for a nice Korean special edition or perhaps a Eureka release somewhere down the line. Sang-Ho Yeon's earlier animated films, King of Pigs & The Fake are worth checking out, and I see Olive films are giving them both Blu Ray releases in the next month or so.

Train to Busan is fantastic. Moves at the speed of a rocket and just never lets ups. I've also seen the animated prequel Seoul Station. It's good but doesn't prepare one for the brilliance of Train to Busan.
King of the Pigs & particularly The Fake are also worth seeking out. Haven'y caught up with the Wailing as yet (kept missing screenings) but will blind buy it when it get released on Blu Ray in Korea - can't wait. |

I saw this at Frightfest, and it was indeed excellent. It doesn't necessarily do anything all that new, but it certainly feels like a film that refreshes the genre. The action sequences are fantastic, and it's also surprisingly moving in places. There are some nice Irwin Allen-style disaster movie character dynamics going on too. It definitely seems like this might be big over here in the same way The Host was.
I'm essentially very bored of zombie movies and TV shows at this point - surely we reached 'peak zombie' some time ago - but despite that, Train To Busan and The Girl With All The Gifts were two of my favourite films at Frightfest this year (the latter being especially good - lots of smart, original stuff in there). |

How much of Busan is in the film? Haeundae Beach, Somyeon, Nampo Dong etc? I lived there for a year.
