I wonder if they are going to do a collectors or limited edition of it.
I already have two versions of it on DVD. But I might upgrade

Hard to tell but they've given stuff like Ergo Proxy and Lucky Star plain releases, so I'm not hopeful for this next catalogue title of their's.

Just a little reminder again, there is no Blu-ray release in Japan, so be a bit cautious.

Well Lucky Star didn't do so well for Bandai to where 5 out of 6 volumes were given a Limited Edition with a Sub-only OVA.

But honestly, Funimation's Collector's Editions of rescued titles seem to be pretty random not to mention they can't seem to get their act together on them.

It's not really random though, is it? Haruhi, Fullmetal Alchemist, Code Geass, Escaflowne and Soul Eater are hardly unpopular shows. I would agree though, on them getting their act together - at a time when they're bringing back all these big titles into the fold, what a time they've chosen to mess things up/put out lacklustre sets.

Also they continue to put out releases with very bland disc art. Just look at this! (Yes, I'm this determined to prove a point)

^^^ This. They've really cut back on their LE releases, and the ones they do release are so screwed up they're laughable, but also infuriating. I sure hope their Death Parade LE box does not have any problems, especially with the way it is constructed, with the two snug-fitting halves - I'm afraid that box design has the potential to become another major fiasco...

I'm debating whether or not to grab this.
I remember watching an episode of it back when NewtypeUSA was around. It was on one of the bonus DVDs.
I just don't remember the episode or if it was any good.

It's really, really good. One of the few anime series I can sit through anymore. The dub cast is amazing too.

Absolute must buy if nothing else but for Yoko Kanno's music and Steve Conte.

Am I alone in saying that this isn't a very good upscale/remaster/whatever Funimation did here?

I had to double check and make sure that I put a Blu-ray in and not a DVD copy. The quality just doesn't stand out to me at all. I might sound crazy for saying this but I prefer the old Bandai DVDs ten times over this "Blu-ray" release.

Looks fine to me. I don't exactly expect to be blown away by an upscale. The audio is really what's getting the upgrade.

Might have to see some comparisons if that's the case. I have the DVDs in an nice box already, so not gonna rebuy if this isn't an upgrade.

Did anyone else get stiffed by Amazon on this title today?

I got a message about 10 a.m. that said my delivery was being delayed until the 20th.

What gives?

My problem may be that I thought the Bandai DVDs looked REALLY great for being older DVDs, I guess. The upscale doesn't look even noticeably better half of the time imo.

This is why I wish this site did more anime reviews... if this isn't a clear upgrade I don't want it either as I already ahve the LE boxset on DVD.
