I'll give it a try. Looks interesting but it is produced by Jordan Peele who also gave us the horrible Twilight Zone reboot.

Just finished the first episode and really enjoyed it. Feels like a sequel to Inglourious Basterds set in 70’s New York. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B084RDGSF7/

I started watching the pilot last night, only got through the first half of the episode before I turned it off because the episode was all over the place. I don't know if it was due to being exhausted but I found myself getting bored with it.
This morning, I went back to finish watching the episode and the back half of the episode was better. But, I didn't like how Al Pacino was relegated to the background. He's an actor that deserves a larger role. I'll get back to watching the rest of the season over the next few days. The series just started off rough with the pilot episode for me because it felt kind of disjointed. But, I'm glad it did pick up. I think they spent too much time on telling Jonah's story and he wasn't exactly a shining pillar of the episode, even on the back half. |

Have watched the first seven eps so far. The tonal swings are jarring and the only one I totally enjoyed was the little vignette about Huntsville, AL (it sort of reminded me of some of the vignettes in The Big Short).
Radnor's character is sort of a constant reminder that the tone is going to shift at some point. I'm not sure if I like it, but it's certainly different. |

Finished it. It is a very weird melange built on the base of an alt-history Nazi hunter story set in the late '70s.
That base is dramatic (if a bit lurid). Then the show runners seemed to decide they wanted to throw in tones, references, and homages to various other films including but not limited to: Inglorious Basterds & Kill Bill Schindler's List The Dirty Dozen The Boys From Brazil The Big Short ...and at least one other film that I'm forgetting at the moment. (I was also reminded of Kick Ass and The Boys at certain points, but those may just be just coincidences of narrative structure and not specific references) Overall, it's certainly well made and I enjoyed it. But it's definitely not for everyone. The tonal shifts alone will drive many people away. The worst of those are mainly in the first few episodes. After it settles in, the only weird shifts are a couple of little "that shit really happened" vignettes reminiscent of The Big Short and several scenes featuring Radnor's character who basically stands out like a sore thumb as overly-comic relief. |
