I, Robot and The Day After Tomorrow are a couple of my favorite movies. They would be idea for a 8K or 4K scan of the 35mm film negative and released on the 4K Blu-ray format.
Back on 10-2-2007 20th Century Fox used state of the art MPEG-4/AVC with 5.1 DTS-HD Master audio on a 50GB disc for The Day After Tomorrow. 20th Century Fox was releasing Blu-ray’s like Behind Enemy Lines back in the year 2006 that used MPEG-4/AVC and 5.1 DTS-HD Master audio. 20th Century Fox was a few years ahead of some studios in terms of using the best quality on the early 2006 Blu-ray releases. Some studios in 2006 and 2007 were still using MPEG-2 video codec with lossy audio. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Behin...nes-Blu-ray/6/ A 2006 Blu-ray release that used MPEG-4/AVC and lossless audio. 20th Century Fox was real awesome. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-D...w-Blu-ray/198/ https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/I-Robot-Blu-ray/319/ (Will Smith has a outstanding performance in this movie). quote “Walt Disney has brought to an end one of the best-known names in the entertainment industry, 20th Century Fox.” https://www.bbc.com/news/business-53747270 Last edited by HDTV1080P; 10-28-2021 at 05:26 AM. |

I wouldn't mind a UHD release of I, Robot. Preferably a UHD/Blu-ray combo set to compare the results, as I know a 4K upscale would probably be less than ideal and it would be interesting to compare the two.
I was contemplating upgrading my old DVD to the Blu-ray that's out currently, but there's this feeling in my bones that a new release of I, Robot is just about ready to go. Maybe they're waiting for the whole Oscar-slap controversy to roll on down the memory hole? And anyway, there's a tendency for new releases of a movie to be announced a month or two after I cave and pick up an old blu. |

There is a 4K digital HDR for Day After Tomorrow. So it's on the table. Perhaps they are waiting for 20th anniversary (2024) to release?
As to I, Robot. Well, idk about that. It should also end up on the format. I seent a 4K master custom HDR upscale. Based on that whatever 2K DI they have to source from should produce a striking 4K UHD disc Oh, ffs. I had a brain fade and forgot these are in Disney's grip now... ![]() Things that seemed like they wouldn't have been happening, just slowly (90's horror for example). Slowly chipping away at the mainstream catalog many of us dreams to purchase. This reminds me I need to update and tend to my now yearly revised wishlist masterlist. I really like both movies. Some of the cgi in Day after tomorrow doesn't really hold up with today's standards though.
But I don't care. I want them both ![]() |
