Amazon Amazon.co.uk General Thread

Hey all,

Wasn't sure in which sub-forum to post this, hope this makes sense.
Anyway, saw the post on the homepage about the new "Hollow Man" BD SE coming out and wanted to look into it.
Went to Amazon UK and placed item in cart, price was 23.51.
After selecting my shipping address (I'm in the US) and proceeding price went down 19.59?
Final price with shipping 22.67
Was kinda surprised by this so did the same test with Batman Trilogy 4k Box Set and same deal, 37.98 in cart, 31.65 after proceeding.
These are quite substantial price drops, is it something to do with UK sales tax being stopped for international customers? Seems steep at 20%.
Not that I'm complaining or anything, but I am curious as to what's the deal there?

It’s removing the 20% VAT.

i think it's something to do with amazon only charging VAT to UK addresses, other places can be subject to their own VAT and i think those are generally dealt with at customs rather than amazon their self

As others have said, Amazon remove the VAT for international orders.

Thanks for the replies guys. 20% VAT seems a bit much but what can you do?

For me in Sweden, Amazon UK removes the UK 20% VAT and adds the Swedish 25% VAT.
At least, the math says so, the Hollow Man example with £23.51 ends up at £24.49 before shipping.
Probably does the same for all EU countries. For now.

Only for non EU orders. You are then subject to your own country’s import limit and taxes.

In the EU you are charged your own country’s VAT rate by Amazon.co.uk. Most are around or exactly 20% e.g, Italy, Spain, France with Germany a fraction below. However as noted above VAT in Sweden and Denmark is 25% so makes the price even higher. Works the same way with the other European Amazon sites.

Schedule an appointment to see a Mental Specialist and not worry about declaring bankruptcy and losing everything in your possession I guess.

For the moment, I'll consider international orders as those placed from outside the EU (I know they're not domestic orders), but thanks for the insight.

Just noticed that all the items I have in my wish list no longer seem to display Marketplace prices, only Amazon. When I click onthe item page it displays any third party sellers available as normal.. Anyone else notice this?

I don't bother with Amazon for new Blu-ray releases anymore, but they're still one of the best places for older titles because they are often cheaper.

Just a heads up for anyone following this thread- the best Amazon deals are actually on Amz Italy- they usually always have '4 for 40' euros deals and other great offers going on on 4K movies (cover art usually has the movie titles in Italian but discs themselves are identical to the UK)

Yes! I had the same problem, contacted Amazon countless time, they asked me to send them screeshots, 10 emails and chats later I gave up as the customer service was useless. I posted this on forums where it kept getting deleted.
Funnily enough it's now working again. It only affected my wishlist on my mobile, pc was fine but could only access it once a week, and I like to browse my wishlist twice or so every day.

Amazon removes 20% for Channel Islands customers, works out well for me here in Guernsey!

Default Oh No! "This item is reserved for Prime members"

What do I do if I'm in the US and want to order an item and get one of these Prime deals?
I have US Prime but that doesn't seem to count?
How long is an item usually a Prime Exclusive? Will the price go up once it's no longer a Prime Exclusive?
How long am I going to wait?
