I'm not sure if this is the correct subforum, but I'm trying to troubleshoot an issue with my very low-end equipment, and I've sort of come to the end of what I can figure out on my own.
We watch on a very old 32LG70 that I got second-hand about five years ago. I calibrated it to some degree by eye using test patterns two years ago. We'd been using an LG BP350 as our player for many years, but it recently developed an issue where it would keep displaying a pop-up saying it couldn't connect to the internet while trying to watch discs, so we replaced it with a Sony BDP-BX370. The issue I'm encountering is that everything I've played so far on the new Sony player looks like bad 3D, or like bad green screening. The actors look detached from the background, like they've been inserted in digitally. The effect is more or less strong, depending on what I'm watching and the particular scene or shot, but it's distracting and makes it hard for me to watch discs. (My wife, on the other hand, doesn't notice it.) I did see this effect occasionally in some shots and scenes with our old LG player, but on this player it's much more prominent and pervasive. I've gone through and played with different setting options on both the player and the TV, but I haven't found anything that seems to have an effect on this. I've also tried to recalibrate again, as best I can, using test patterns (especially the sharpness setting), but as far as I'm able to tell I have the picture settings roughly where they should be. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can look for and correct that might be causing this? |

If I looked at the correct owner's manual for your TV:
Under: Picture > Advanced Control > turn off TruMotion. Correction: Experiment with RealCinema on/off but turn TruMotion off. |

My LG tv doesn't seem to have TruMotion. (I guess it wasn't an option on the 32" screens for that series?) I tried playing a blu w/ and w/o Real Cinema, but the issue persisted. I ended up returning the Sony player and getting an LG BP175 instead. Picture looks like what I'm used to, and there's no wifi to go bad on that model.
Thanks for your reply! |
