Default 4K UHD Releases Without Blu-ray Discs

I am looking to make a list of all USA 4K UHD Movie and TV releases that do not come with a standard Blu-Ray. This is a trend that I have seen starting with Paramount, and now Warner and even Disney are starting to do it. This does also include collectors editions from companies like Arrow or Shout, but does not include other steelbooks in any fashion (unless it is the only release). For example Top Gun Maverick does not come with a Blu-Ray disc, but the steelbook edition does, and the opposite is true for It (2016). I will start with the ones I know of and add them here. Please give the BD Links so I can make this easier to update

Releases are also eligible for this list if the included Blu-Ray does not include the same version of the movie/TV show as the 4k and that version is available for purchase on a standalone Blu-Ray. Example being It's a wonderful life having only the colorized version on the included Blu-Ray.

Thanks for catching it. I am working on replacing titles with the listings right now as well.

The Wolf of Wall Street standard release did not include the Blu-ray. Only the Steelbook.

Thank you to all who have helped me expand this list so far. Hopefully this will get stickied by mods and can eventually be a go-to resource. Everybody giving me links, you are the best and make my work on this so much easier.

I don't think this is really necessary, especially considering that combos are going to be become less and less common as time goes on. If you can't research five seconds to find if the UHD contains a BD, you deserve to lose your money. It's on the box.

The point is for when bringing a disc to a tv that does not have HDR. Having this list helps people know what they would have to either double dip in so they can know beforehand. Yes, it is usually on the box. Yes they should still be including it in all releases, as a 4k blu ray can't be used well on all tvs, while a blu ray will still look better on an SD display than a dvd would. HDR to SDR conversion is mostly not used properly on players, and not all blu ray players sold support 4k discs.

Shouldn't 12 angry men from kino count? Their 4k doesn't have the original on the included blu ray, just the remake.
Also the bill and ted shout select 4k is for whatever reason the only shout/scream factory 4k release without a blu ray included.
Also also, any a24 shop exclusive 4k.

No, totally disagree, they should not be included with all releases. I can't complain when a PlayStation 4 game I bought doesn't work on a PS3. I bought something for a specific kind of hardware. Why would I ever WANT to watch the inferior version when I have the 4K?

My previous post sums it up perfectly; if I need BOTH discs, and I have to purchase them separately, that's almost double what I should've been paying. It's especially bad for boutique labels like Arrow as the 4Ks and Blu-rays are incredibly expensive to start with and I can't justify buying the 4K, no matter how good, when I won't be able to watch it on an SDR display. It's not about buying a 4K and not having the Blu-ray, it's about buying the 4K AND the Blu-ray.

It's not about the disc itself, it's about the video codec requiring specific display hardware. We're not shoving a PSP disc into a PS2 and wondering why it wont work, we're plugging an advanced video codec to a device that doesn't support the color space. If you play a HDR disc on an SDR display, the color space will look washed out as the image expects your display to have more color capabilities than it literally does. Most displays are SDR, and if you have a home media server or backup films to watch on your mobile device, then an HDR file is NOT what your phone will play best.

TL;DR - It's not about the discs not working on a player, it's about the HDR not looking good on non-HDR displays.

If it's about HDR, then why aren't you asking for 4K HDR/4K SDR combos instead of 4K HDR/FHD SDR combos? It is about the disc.

Because they don't exist... Studios haven't released them and they're only removing the Blu-ray to cut costs. Do you really think they're going to give us an SDR 4K disc when most companies cheap out with forcing films onto BD66 when they desperately needed 100?

So you have to make an excuse for the FHD SDR disc to be in your collection, when its real purpose is to be used by people who don't always have 4K players. If the purpose is what you say, the labels would make 4K SDR/HDR combos.

The BD gives the label the excuse to charge more, so I don't want it. Even if it only costs them 50 cents, they could inflate that when passing it on to the consumer. Single disc cases look nicer and vibrate less in transit. Also less chance of a loose discs banging and bumping around. If there are too many special features for the 4K disc, fine, but most of the time there is room to spare.
