Besides the obvious brain injury plot device which was scrapt, think about it. In Rocky Balboa and Creed he mentions the home team quote to Robert which started with Rocky V; he is still living low in Philadelphia; he names the restaurant after Adrien and he states how good a cook she is in Rocky V (which is the only time I recall him saying that); he tells Adonis that he doesn't "do that anymore" when asked to mange him presumingly after what happened with Tommy Gunn; there is a picture with Rocky and Robert in Creed who was played by Sage Stallone in Rocky V and it looked like it was taken around about the same time Rocky V happened; its revealed in 5 that Micky's motivation for continuing to live, despite everything around him having moved on, was because of Rocky himself, much like Rocky's motivation in "Creed" was Creed for the same reasons. Also both Rocky V and Creed end on the famous steps, and in both films Rocky (in so many words) states that there are more steps as the years go by.
My theory is that Stallone who said that he did like Rocky V back in 1990 as the closure for the series years later caved in to pressure and jumped on the hate bandwagon. |
