Default They Live 2 (Carpenter Says It Might Happen)

Screenrant

Quote:
In a new interview with Den Of Geek the filmmaker was answering a question about a remake of They Live that was once in development with The Batman director Matt Reeves, and dropped a hint a sequel might be in the works instead.

"There was a feature film. It was a feature film called Resistance, written by, oh, the guy who did the Apes movies. Matt Reeves. But then he moved on, and so the sequel is, well, we'll see. We'll just have to see."

When Carpenter says 'We'll just have to see' that usually translates to 'Ain't gunna happen'.

Doesn't sound hopeful, but I do hope it happens and I hope they call it They Still Live

At least it seems like a project he may be interested in. Not a "here's the check, Mr. Carpenter" situation that he is always very open about, so I'm sure he'd put it in that frame if true. I think that's what makes the new Halloween have such good buzz and positive response (seeing it tonight to finally find out!).

Even if it's a different director, I bet he'd be down to do the music!

Given the increase in consumerism these days, maybe we do need another one.

"Dropped a hint" ..... lmao.

He basically said the project is 99% dead.

Not that I believe that there's any threat to this ever actually happening, but screw it all the same.

Carpenter needs to regroup with Walter Hill, Shane Black and Fred Dekker and get Shadow Company finally made.

I can’t wait to double feature Neill Blomkamp’s Alien and Matt Reeves’s They Live sequels.

*GAAAAAAAASP!*

He's had a script for years at this point. Reeves could have done a touch-up though, and holy cow. I promised myself I wouldn't get excited for any "possible" new Carpenter movies after The Prince, Darkchylde, the Hilary Swank vampire one, and L.A. Gothic........ but They Live 2 is my most desired Carpenter flick after Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Escape from Earth.

The time was '89, when it was supposed to be made and all those guys were still at their zenith. It would have been a PERFECT follow-up to They Live and a glorious capper to a decade they were all crucial in shaping.

I still don't know why it never went through, with all the excitement over the screenplay and the names involved.

If not Shadow Company, then another project that would pair Carpenter and Hill together. I'm amazed the two never collaborated; they have such similar styles and sensibilities

So happy to see a kindred spirit; I've been pimping the Carpenter/Hill parallels for a long long time.

I'm more interested in John Carpenter as a musician in 2018. If this ever happened I'd rather someone else directed it. I'm not saying someone better than Carpenter, because he's a an all-time great filmmaker, but he lost his ambition for making movies a good 20 years ago. Furthermore if a sequel to a JC film not called Halloween has to happen, I'd rather it be Snake Plissken finally getting his trilogy.

Lockout is close to how a third Plissken movie would have turned out, minus the eye patch

A They Live 2 would certainly be interesting to see in today's political landscape. It really does make me wonder how much the movie's world would've changed between then and now. I definitely also do wonder about how the score will go because I'm admittedly not impressed with Carpenter's works in recent years, although I have not listened to his new Halloween score so idk.
