MVD will be releasing the film Desperate Hours (1990) as part of their Rewind Collection on July 19th. The film was previously released by Shout! Factory in a Mickey Rourke double-feature set, but has since gone OOP.

Happy to see this individually released, and will eventually pick up to complete the Cimino catalogue, but will not buy at face-value for that price because no real "special features." A slipcover, in this case, doesn't interest me when it's nothing special. And archival "behind the scenes" are not worth enough, either. How about an audio commentary, at least?? Even if Cimino never recorded one, a film historian would do, a la what Kino does?

![]() I do like this version a lot and I have the Shout double feature blu-ray, but I still prefer the original. Bogart's performance is incredible and his character is absolutely hateful. It's also dramatically superior. This remake gets a little overwrought at times. But Mickey Rourke rocks regardless. The Desperate Hours was originally a stage-play with Paul Newman in the Bogart/Rourke role, if I recall correctly. Would love to have seen it. |

No stereo track, just 5.1? Odd, to say the least, given the Shout had it. Wish the original poster art was used as well.
Hopefully a decent remaster of The Sicilian (perhaps woth both cuts) is on the horizon, and *any* HD release of Sunchaser would be splendid. The old Sicilian transfer was overbright and had interlace artifacts iirc, and Sunchaser's BD was cancelled outright. |

Not sure what you're asking for, but here is the Amazon pre-order page. It's still scheduled to come out July 19th from what I can see. Surprised the Amazon link wasn't in the database here yet, so I'll add it.

Just got this in today. Same transfer as the previous disc (Which is to say it looks pretty good, without glaring DNR/EE issues etc, though it could almost certainly look better with a new scan.) and it seems to have a stereo track like the Shout BD even though it isn't listed on the packaging, rather than having only the 5.1 option. The theatrical trailer on the MVD disc is also upgraded to be in the proper aspect ratio + presented in proper HD, so that's another plus.
Only issue is the subtitles. They're completely borked somehow with weird errors, like I'll coming out as L'll or the O in OK being replaced with the number zero and coming out as 0K. If subtitles are important to you, this release may be problematic. Otherwise recommended, on par if not slightly better than the Shout disc. Last edited by Chumpster99; 07-31-2022 at 08:53 AM. |

I remember watching this on HBO and am really surprised to see it get any sort of physical media release, given its infamy as a "so bad it's good" movie.
What I remember most about this film is Leonard Maltin's review, which noted that "Shawnee Smith is so irritating, you'll beg to see her character get cold cocked." |
