Jungle Book is undoubtedly a better movie, but I still prefer SITS. Just more my kind of story. And of course the battle between Merlin and Mim is glorious.

I have less nostalgia for The Jungle Book than I do the other Disney Animation movies of the '60s; someone borrowed my parents' Walt Disney Classics VHS, then never gave it back, and my parents didn't buy another copy until the Platinum Edition DVD.

TSITS is one of the worst Disney movies. Horrible songs, unmemorable characters, terrible production values especially coming so soon after Sleeping Beauty.

I thought it was very interesting that in the Sherman Brothers doc, there's no mention of TSITS whatsoever. Even though it was their first animated Disney movie they worked on but the doc acted like the movie didn't even exist, which shows the utter lack of interest even from Disney and the people who worked on the movie.

Sword in the Stone is my favorite Disney movie/favorite animated movie. The squirrel scene gets me every time, and there’s surprisingly good tension for the fish scene. And it’s funny! Archimedes is one of the great Disney characters, followed close by Merlin. The songs are fun and catchy, and the sketch look of the animation works for me. The magical animal battle, as another member posted, is glorious.

It is a bit episodic, but so’s the book, and Disney was competing with TV. I watch this yearly, and if I never read there’s an “issue” with Wart’s voice, I’d have never known.

I do appreciate that Jungle Book gave us TaleSpin.

Jungle Book has such a basic plot, but the songs and characters are more heartwarming and engaging. Personally, I’m a massive nerd for British history, so naturally I love SITS a heck of a lot more. The fussy Archimedes is still a joy to watch, and yeah, that squirrel scene still gets me. I admit TSIS has weaker songs, but the book opening of TSIS and the “Legend” song that accompanies it, to me, is one of the most beautiful pieces of music in the Disney canon. It sucks that it’s the ONLY major Disney animated feature to not have a CD or even digital soundtrack release. Heck, even The Black Cauldron got that. Oof.

I picked Sword in the Stone, even though Jungle Book has more entertaining songs.
