News broke the other day that Tom Hardy has been cast in the title role in David Yates’ Capone. Now Total Film is reporting on an interview Hardy did with Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigboye. Hardy had this to say about the film and his preparation for the role:

"I’ve been working with Warner Bros, watching their gangster films — the ones with James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart and Edward G. Robinson. It’s interesting to get them, and a bit of Capone, into the bloodstream… The idea isn’t to remake those films but to get a flavour of them as we explore Capone’s career as a racketeer. The idea at the moment is of doing a trilogy of films, but nothing is set. Everyone is just talking and exploring.”

So Hardy and Yates want to do a trilogy of films about Al Capone? I don’t see the need for a trilogy here. Why not to a nice long three hour biopic and have a good epic telling of the life of Al Capone?

Hardy says Capone will be his next project after Mad Max: Fury Road. You can see Hardy next in McG’s This Means War. He’ll also be starring in a small indie film this summer titled The Dark Knight Rises.
