USA One From the Heart - Reprise 4K UHD (1982)

Lionsgate will be releasing Francis Ford Coppola's One From the Heart: Reprise on 4K UHD on May 7th. Unlike the UK release, there will only be a UHD of the Reprise version, while the original 1982 film is relegated to the included Blu-ray.

Quote:
OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS
One from the Heart: Reprise is a spectacular 4K restoration and reimag ining of the 1982 cult classic from Francis Ford Coppola. Six minutes of footage have been added to replace the original negative, previously thought to be destroyed, resulting in a brand-new Reprise version, approved by Coppola himself. One from the Heart: Reprise tells the story of a Las Vegas couple (Teri Garr, Frederic Forrest) whose break-up on the Fourth of July leads them both to a night on the Strip in pursuit of their romantic fantasies (Raul Julia, Nastassja Kinski). But in this town of gamblers and dreamers, should they bet it all on dreams, or give true love another roll of the dice? Featuring breathtaking design, show-stopping set pieces, the stunning photography of Vittorio Storaro (Apocalypse Now, The Last Emperor) and accompanied by the wonderful Oscar®-nominated music of the one and only Tom Waits, this neon explosion of color, sound, and innovation is a cinematic valentine for all movie lovers.

I'm not sure if that's on a second UHD like the international release, or on the included Blu-ray. I'll update the post when more details come out. Also, since this appears to be releasing in less than a month, I'm pretty sure this will be a MOD release, similar to Contempt/Le Mepris.

Lionsgate went full tilt with a 4-disc edition for The Mist so hopefully they'll provide all the discs for this one too.

Amazon US has it already listed with 4 discs for $44.02. So it will have more discs than the UK version.

That is the UK edition you're looking at:

Well that version is coming out of the UK. So puzzling? Because the UK version only had two discs.

Nah, as Geoff said, it's 4-discs. 2 UHD, 2 BD.

Will wait until the US version (Lionsgate) actually comes out to see how many discs there are.

The USA Lionsgate press release is out and seems to indicate it's a 2-disc set -- one UHD for the Reprise cut, one Blu-Ray with the 1982 cut and extras.

This would mean it's a 2-disc release, cut down from the 4 discs of the UK release.

Maybe it's wrong, but it specifies the 1982 cut is "on Blu-Ray" in two different places...

Quote:
Included in the 4K + Blu-rayTM + Digital package are six brand-new special features (available on the 4K restoration) plus the 1982 cut on Blu-ray, filled with classic 1982 bonus content. The One from the Heart: Reprise package comes straight from the heart, and arrives 5/7/24 with an SRP of $30.99.

The UK edition is such a nice one with its thick and heavy case plus the shiny slip. Very happy with this and disappointed that Lionsgate apparently have no real interest in the film and what’s on the disc, which is a shame because it’s one of the best UHDs in my collection:

This is what I wrote on the AV quality: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...8&postcount=30

But in my opinion, the real highlights are found among the new bonus features, some of the best there are on the subject of musicals, their staging and we’re getting an incredible glimpse into Coppola directing and making this very unique film. Wrote some more in a separate post: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...5&postcount=47

I hope many of you give the film & UHD a chance and reward the beautiful labor of love Coppola & his team put into it. We’ve got the old cut and OG audio to round it up as well - all beautifully encoded by David M / FiM.

Edit: The LG press release says that the 1982 cut is only on BD. Then the Studiocanal UK is the definitive edition as it contains both cuts on separate BD-100 UHDs.

Glad I already imported the UK StudioCanal disc. Really sucks that they kicked the theatrical cut to a Blu Ray for the US release.

Didn't realize the UK has the Theatrical in 4K, but will definitely be grabbing that. Thanks for the head's up!

What is the consensus on the Theatrical cut vs Reprise, anyway?

Reprise adds six minutes of footage that was once thought lost. Not sure of any other changes.

Personally, I want the Theatrical Cut since that's the version I'm familiar with.

That's an impressive number of revisions. I only saw this movie once, many years ago, and didn't really connect with it. But I am fascinated by the editing process and Coppola's recuts are like crack for me. I went through B'Twixt Now and Sunrise shot by shot when it came out last year because Movie-Censorship didn't have a page for it. I have to say, the changes to One from the Heart are so numerous that I couldn't really follow what Movie-Censorship was talking about it half the time. This isn't just adding and removing scenes. There is a vast number of adjustments, large and small, and I'm curious what their cumulative impact is for those familiar with the other cuts.

I think the original cut is better. This new cut focuses on the main relationship and takes away from the Stanton and Kinski characters, and feels rushed and clunky at times, particularly the big romantic gesture at the airport. There is one very cute new addition that I enjoyed but ultimately, I'll stick to the original.

Already imported this from the UK, so I'm all set over here. Now, if iTunes can update my copy of this to the new version, I would be golden.
