Could have just posted this in the Yakuza: Of the End thread since it's the same game. But, I do prefer the regular main story Yakuza games, but this one is good even if i'm not a fan of zombie games. It also has a bunch of mini-games that you would expect from a Yakuza game.

Well in previous Yakuza games, all of your opponents were well alive. You walk around Japan sort of like if you're playing a GTA game, and will have some non-story related enemies picking a fight with you(I also hear people comparing Yakuza to Shenmue which is also a Sega game, but never played it myself to know for sure). Then there's also story related bosses to face who belong to other Yakuza groups. Also have missions to go on that NPCs ask of you to do which does earn you some money. You can pick up random objects laying around to use as weapons,
Also lots of mini-games to play like Bowling, Baseball, UFO Catcher, Karaoke(which plays like a music rhythem game), Darts, Mahjong, card games, Golf, Fishing, getting to talk to Hostesses with even going out on dates with them, Shogi, Pachinko, playing Pool, Coliseum Tournaments, and other stuff as well. In Yakuza: Dead Souls/Of the End, it does have stuff like that too, but just doesn't really have enemies who are alive. |

Far more of a JRPG than an GTA sandbox game, which is what I was expecting with Yakuza 3. All great games, though, some of the best graphics on the PS3, and compelling stories. I usually get bored with some of the minigames, and the hostess stuff but there are dozens of hours of gameplay if you're a completist.

I'm playing through Yakuza 4 now. I put about 15 hours in and am still on the first playable character. I keep exploring and not advancing in story, though at the same time I'm getting burned out and am getting an itch to play other games. |

My problem with all of the Yakuza games is that I get immersed in the main story and rush through it, not getting to but a fraction of the substories and minigames. This was more true in 4 than 3 but it's happened in all of the PS3 games so far. Pretty sure a second playthrough I can be more deliberate since I already know what happens but THEN get distracted by another game. I have a bit of a window before Starhawk hits next month...

It is worth getting but good luck finding the game for a good price, a US copy can sell between 80 to 90 dollars complete in the box, the reason why it is so valuable cause the game sold a few copies back in '11 and it was delayed due to the tsunami at that time
