Ugh.. I hate to complain as I am genuinely glad we're getting TFATH on Blu-ray, but why does it have to be combo'd with its sequel? DX
I wish they'd just release them separately.. They better not start doing this with other DTV sequels.. meh. But on the bright side I'm looking forward to seeing how The Fox and the Hound looks in high def. Hopefully they can restore it and it looks very nice, especially compared to the PQ on its last DVD. |

I agree, The Fox and the Hound should be released on its own. I won't ever watch a direct to video sequel of any of their films. They are just plain bad.
This double feature is gonna mess up the artwork for sure. |

I think it was mentioned as a double feature release, however it would be nice to see a scan.

I don't think there is a issue with having both films on one 50GB Blu Ray disc esp since there have NEVER been any worthwhile bonus features for the first film.
Each film with its running time would be fine on its own 25GB disc esp with the really poor extras Fox and The Hound has had on the previous DVD edition. From what I can remember they weren't even worth looking at. I don't even recall them. |

Fox & the Hound is NOT one of their lead titles by any stretch of the imagination (it was one of the last titles to come out on Gold), and FH2 was the first in their new "experiment" of making DTV sequels to their B non-sellers like Dumbo and Aristocats (and Bambi ![]() The sequel was one of their popular DTV sellers, and Disney wouldn't be releasing F&H now, with an already crowded classic-Blu slate, unless they had an ulterior motive they were testing.* But, as the two Lion King sequels are now considered too "big" to enclose in a package deal, looks like they're toying with the throwaway experiment of seeing whether package movie-and-vidquel deals will work for other future shaky titles someday coming to Blu, like Pocahontas, Lilo or Groove...Possibly fueled by their "Two-part story" popularity of being able to cross-promote Old Tron with New Tron, and seeing whether bundled "sagas" work for other sequels. Like Fox's Anastasia packaging its cheapquel as a bonus extra, it at least saves time, and Disney doesn't have to throw shelf space away on a separate Blu for "Atlantis II: Milo's Return". (Which actually would work better as a bonus extra on its movie.) ----- * - Unless, perhaps, they were cashing in on FH2 being a baldfaced rewrite of their Country Bears movie, to get us in the mood for their Muppets movie next year. ![]() Last edited by EricJ; 02-16-2011 at 09:43 PM. |

Pocahontas and Lilo are infinitely more popular than FATH. People from this generation saw them in the cinemas and would have fond memories.
A 50GB disc would hold both but that gives no room for extras, and honestly, I'd rather they try to make extras than stuff the disc with a cheap sequel. Disney pulled the plug on these releases for a reason, it cheapened their original product, so why acknowledge them again and associate them with actual canon? Pocahontas, Lilo, Groove, Dinosaur, Treasure Planet, Atlantis, Tarzan, Mulan, Hunchback, Brother Bear, Saludos Amigos, Three Caballeros all have extras on a previous format so leaving them bareboned would be plain lazy. There was also work on trying to make Robin Hood and Aristocats have worthwhile editions and movies like Black Cauldron and Fox have topical unique circumstances to exploit for features. FATH2 is not a solution, it's a cop out, just like any other DTV sequel tacked on would be. |

(In-house execs still regret making the audience think Cinderella II was a "movie" instead of a TV-pilot...If you asked them Which One Killed It, you'll get one answer.) But since they have to sell the characters, they figure, can't hurt to get it all. There weren't that many extras on the Gold release, and the movies are a total of 2h50 tops on 1080; that should still leave room for a little SD. I'm not defending it to the end, just saying that if I want to see a title "forgotten", one good way is to stick it on the bottom of a double, like Warner and Sony's double features, than give it shelf space of its own and try to convince us to buy it. (Would I want Bambi II if it had been included as a spare disk in the Diamond Edition? Probably wouldn't watch it more than once out of historical curiosity, but it's better than paying them for it. ![]() Quote:
