I have had a really hard time getting my computer to play blu-ray/hd-dvd. Here are my system specs:
Intel Core 2 6700 @ 2.66GHz 4 gigs of ram Video Card 1 (set to primary): Nvidia 8800 GTX w/768mb -HP LP3065 30" LCD (dual link dvi, HDCP compatible 2560x1600) Video Card 2: Nvidia 8800 GTX w/768 -La Cie 20" LCD (non-HDCP -- I only use this monitor for still images) Nvidia Video Drivers ver. 169.21 (and to be perfectly clear, I have 2 video cards, each powering 1 monitor) I've tried both Single-Display Performance and Multi-Display Performance modes. I don't really know which is the correct to use since each video card has its own display. Blu-Ray/HD-DVD Drive: LG GGC-H20L "Super Multi Blue" Windows XP Professional w/latest service pack and up-to-date from windows update Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultra 7.3 Here is what happens: If my 30" monitor is set to native 2560x1600 resolution, then PowerDVD says it fails to initialize HDCP. The Cyberlink advisor utility says my display is not HDCP compliant and won't play hd-dvd or blu-ray. I also downloaded the intervideo WinDVD advisor, and it says my digital display isn't HDCP *AND* my processor isn't the right kind (then it goes on to say it recommends a 6700 @ 2.66ghz, which i find funny). If I lower my resolution to 1280x800, then Cyberlink advisor and the program don't report any problems, but my Blu-Ray disc won't play and the program will quickly lock-up while showing just a black screen where video should be. Please help me. I spent 2 hours on the phone with dell, who blamed HP. I spent 2 hours with HP, who blamed dell. Then I spent quite a few emails back-and-forth with Cyberlink, and they said tough luck. Thank you for any assistance. |

I have tried disconnecting the La Cie, and it still gave me the same issues. Then, I actually went into the device manager, and I completely disabled my 2nd video card, and still everything failed ![]() I just saw another post where someone recommended AnyDVD by SlySoft. I'm going to just try that and see if it works. If so, then I guess problem solved. I can't be disconnecting my LaCie as a permanent solution, anyway. It is the best monitor I've ever seen for still image work, which is important as an artist. Amazing color. The drawback, naturally, is that you had best never try to look at a moving object on it. Those rich tones come at the cost of refresh rate. |

Yeah, it doesn't work for me. The issue is that PowerDVD hangs. Maybe it is my disc. Has anyone ever had any trouble with "Surf's Up?"
The screen in PowerDVD isn't black when it hangs, it's actually a very very dark purple, like maybe it wanted to play something. I can play regular dvds just fine. Oh well, at least this AnyDVD program made it where I can hang PowerDVD in 2560x1600 instead of just in 1280x800. I'm a sad panda, at the moment. Is there anyone currently using 2 nvidia video cards who *can* watch blu-ray/hd-dvd? If so, would you mind posting your video settings so I can make sure I don't have something toggled wrong? |

Have you loaded the latest patch for Power DVD. I know it comes up saying download the latest update, then it says that it has done so successfully. PowerDVD LIES... to successfully update it only works you do so manually by downloading it yourself and installing it outside the programme.

No, i have not done that I guess. I've only used autoupdaters. I'll go see if that fixes my problem.
I really hope it does! I can play 1080p trailers and stuff with quicktime and media player, but that doesnt' do me much good with blu-ray discs. |

ok, I tried downloading the newest patch. It said it was for retail only, but my version is OEM. When I tried to run it, the installation aborted.
According to the CyberLink Hi-Def Suite, I have PowerDVD version 7.03.3516, and there are no patches or upgrades available for it. Maybe I have a video overlay or something that is messing with it? I dunno. It's driving me bonkers. |

Ahhh... the OEM version. There was a problem with that when I bought my Sony BD writer. With that I got PowerDVD 6 BD edition OEM... I had to visit a Sony link to get an update with the OEM software supplied with the drive.
I later upgraded to the retail version of PowerDVD, and it has worked reasonably ever since. Never brilliantly, but tolerably. I don't use it much these days as I have my BDP-S500. The system does however have another certain drive in it made by Toshiba ![]() ![]() ![]() As an aside when I upgraded to PowerDVD Ultra I got a copy on CD sent too. They only printed part of the product key for the installation in white on a white background ![]() ![]() Have a go with WinDVD and the BD add on. |

An interesting thing just happened. My nvidia control panel started crashing, so I went into safe mode and reinstalled my drivers.
Now it works. Woot! Thank you very much for your help ![]() ![]() |
