Default Quick sub question

I have an av rack that has no bottom, it stands on the carpet. would i be able to put the subwoofer on the bottom shelf if it is still on the carpet and it isn't touching any of the sides of the av rack? will this distort the sound?

Not a good idea, the Sub will rattle the hell out of the rack & a few things can happen, like losen nuts that hold the thing together &/or you would here a rattling sound when ever the sub realy kick in.

just put it in the ground like everyone else.

I would strongly advise against it. Long term effects from the sub's vibrations can adversely affect the electronic componentry of your other gear. It may also cause your disc players to skip during playback too.

Placing the sub on carpet will result in muddy bass. Put spikes under it so that it rests on the sub-floor and your bass will tighten up considerably.

Here's a link to a well-recommended site which sells spikes at reasonable prices. Per their suggestion, I used 3 spikes on my sub to prevent any rocking. Larger speakers should also be spiked, as I've done with my ML's. You don't want to know what the high-end crowd does with components.....

Your best bet is to call Paul at the number on the website and let him make recommendations for you. He's a great guy and won't steer you wrong. I think my three spikes set me back all of $30.

is there any benefit to spikes even on a hardwood floor or is it only for carpet? the ML Dynamo comes with spikes and was wondering if i should use them when firing downward.
