All critical reviews aside, this is quite encouraging from Sony to release more 4K/3D combos. This is the second such release from them after The Angry Birds Movie.

Everyone who sees the movie in theaters also hasn't seen it. It's so weird when people are against blind-buying a Blu-ray but think blind-buying a theater ticket is fine.

I'd much rather just blind-buy this set rather than first spend $10 on a movie ticket to see if it's worth buying.

Since at the moment, no seperate 4K and 3D releases are available for pre-order and Angry Birds is doing the exact same thing, seems like this will be Sony's new 3D release strategy (I imagine the price when it comes out will be in line with other 4K releases as Angry Birds is).

I wonder if Sony listened to some suggests for this type of release, or if it was their plan all along (after all Sony didn't have a new release 3D title since the launch of UHD, and their catalog titles already had been given 3D releases). Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk should then follow as a 4K/3D combo, and that could be home theater demo material for either format given how being in native 4K and 3D is a big part of Ang Lee's intended experience for the film.

Hopefully, they include the 2D Blu-ray as well. After all, bonus material is normally only included on the 2D discs (aside from the occasional audio commentary)...

This is exactly how I feel--I blind buy every 3D Blu-ray film release as I wholeheartedly support the format and want to see it continue. Unless I'm worried about spoilers, I'd rather just skip the theater "leasing" of the film for $10-15 and put that towards owning the Blu-ray. So happy about these Sony 4K/3D combos--hope this becomes the standard.

It's great at least one company is listening with 3d, but wish Sony would provide original audio with their remixes

Wow. Now this will be tough. If this movie completely sucks as I have a feeling it will, do I still pick up the UHD/3D combo pack to support Sony offering both versions in one release?

Yeah, I probably will. That's how much I appreciate Sony doing this.

I wouldn't pre-order this particular film, but I do like that the option is available so far in advance of the theatrical release.

I'm not very sure about their TVs, but maybe it's to promote their TVs with 4K and 3D?

No. I just want to point out the possible positive impact of Sony releasing this in 4K/3D combo without having passionate reviews of the film in the way.

Props on continuing the 4K/3D/2D combo packs. I'm hoping this movie is good and does well; if release week price is $25 or less I'll gladly pick this up.

The previews for this movie haven't really got me very excited but I'm glad Sony is doing UHD + 3D combo releases. In the house I'm moving into next month I'll have a 4K TV in the upstairs and a 3D projector in the basement so it's nice to have both options and not having to choose between the 3D release or the 4K release. Hopefully more studios will start doing this.
