Default REVENGE (1990) Theatrical Version Steelbook (Region Free) May 5, 2023

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Reven...6466/#Overview

I've been searching high and low on these forums, but I don't see anybody talking about the Spanish blu-ray of Revenge that's due to be released tomorrow.

If the J-card info is to be trusted, it's region free and contains the 124-minute theatrical cut. This is pretty big news for admirers of the film, many of whom have been longing to see this masterpiece in its full length and original colour-timing. (At least in a better representation than the ancient full-screen DVD.)

EDIT: Sorry, it's a "futurepak" not a steel.

It's a bootleg from notoriously shady Spanish label 'Resen'. And probably just a repackaging of their 2013 bootleg -

To my knowledge, the only official release of the theatrical cut was in Germany, which is the release i've got -

As older masters go, it's watchable, but it ain't particularly good

Just watched the director's cut Blu-ray of Revenge again the other night. I think this is Tony Scott's best film. Why it is not more highly regarded I'll never know.

Some gorgeous cinematography in the Mexico locations, with some of Scott's distinctive style in the use of light in many shots. Good casting – the main actors are all excellent, particularly the beautiful Madeleine Stowe. The brutal violence is made all the more impactful by the well-crafted narrative.

Think I might prefer the theatrical cut now in that the director's cut moves almost too fast and maybe loses something in building up the key relationships among the characters. It still works though.

Some haloing is noticeable around faces in the transfer on the Blu and maybe a few shots are a little too rough, but overall it renders the look of the film well and I'm just glad to own it on disc.

Problem is someone has been cracking down on Spanish bootlegs being discussed, so expect this thread to disappear at some point

How do you tell these are bootlegs? I bought the Spain blu-ray release of On Deadly Ground (don't judge me lol) and after I'd bought it someone told me all of those Seagal blu-rays from Spain like On Deadly Ground and The Glimmer Man and Fire Down Below are bootlegs. But they don't have that purple underside or look like BD-Rs. They're pressed discs. They look exactly like ones that you buy in the US from Warner Bros or Paramount or Disney or Shout (except they weren't scratched lol). I don't understand..

The main player is Resen. I have seen another 'label' too. Apparently they exploit some loophole in Spanish law and make copies from HD feeds and discs. Most discs are pressed , early ones were a mixture of pressed and BD R. Some of the transfers are really good and i have bought quite a few , to this day vast majority of which yet to see a UK release. Some people get hissy about buying these. My attitude is that if it's the only option out there i'm not waiting until my death bed for some legit label to release.
