Default Who do you think will win the Oscar for Best Actress in 2024?

I picked the ten most high-profile actresses who all have major releases coming out this year and are most likely to be nominated for an Oscar. Who do you think will win the Oscar or who do you hope will win?

Can overdue Annette Bening finally be awarded an Oscar now in the form of an Oscar bait biopic as swimmer Diana Nyad now that Hilary Swank isn't in the running to sabotage her chances as she did twice before?

Will Cate Blanchett be considered due for her third Oscar as a boozy nun after having lost for Tár last year despite being the frontrunner?

Or will Jessica Lange take precedence for winning that so rare but coveted third Oscar for a performance of a lifetime that made her the first American actress nominated for an Olivier award and netted her a Tony?

Will Academy favorite, Todd Haynes, be counted on as delivering nominations for his two lead actresses, Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman, or will the precarious subject matter topple their chances as occurred with Blanchett and Tár?

Similarly, will Anne Hathaway or Jessica Chastain overpower the other in their 21st century version of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane or will Anne score a nomination instead for what appears to be the next Carol?

Will Kate Winslet and Helen Mirren's biopics as a war journalist and Israel's first and only female Prime Minister respectively lead one to the front of the pack?

Or will Alicia Vikander prove her merit as the reigning dame of period dramas in Firebrand and thus silence the naysayers who claimed her Oscar win was entirely due to Harvey Weinstein?

It will be a shame if no woman of color is nominated. Sadly, can't put it past the Academy...

Charlotte Rampling: Oscars diversity row 'racist to whites'

Quizzed over Spike Lee's suggestion that quotas might need to be introduced for black, Asian and minority ethnic actors, after all 20 Oscar acting nominees were white for the second consecutive year, Rampling was dismissive.

"Why put people into categories? We live in a country now where everyone is more or less accepted. Problems will always be sought [people say] 'him, he's less attractive', 'him, he is too black', 'him, he is too white'… there will always be someone who comes out saying 'you are too something'."

"So basically are we saying we are going to put everyone and everything into one class or another to create lots of minority groups everywhere?"

I truly have no idea this early on, but I'll be delighted if Bening finally gets her due, and I'll be rooting for Vanessa Kirby to be a contender (though she might be supporting).

I would hope someone from The Color Purple will be nominated. Or the lady from Killers of the Flower Moon

Bening is who I expect will win and my personal choice. She was snubbed for Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool a few years back.

Kirby was luminous in Pieces of a Woman and my runner up to Frances McDormand in Nomadland. If you're discussing her role in Napoleon, I'm guessing that would manifest in the supporting category. But Ridley Scott hasn't had much Oscar success after both House of Gucci and The Last Duel were ignored and I specifically remember people expected Jodie Comer to snag a nomination as Best Supporting Actress which didn't transpire. Kirby replaced Comer in Napoleon so I can see a similar situation occurring here.

Of these names, the only ones I see potentially winning are Natalie Portman and Jessica Lange. But I think there's a better chance for newcomers like Fantasia Barrino and Greta Lee.
