The world premiere of the restoration is a week from today (Friday).

I suspect there will be some sort of announcement about the US release either there, or timed to the event.

I bought a ticket on the Academy Museum website as soon as they went on sale, they were only like $10. I'll report back after the event.

We won at long last. Hopefully Warner will give their all for this masterpiece and include original audio as well.

Regarding the cuts, yes, they apparently only restored the theatrical cut. Larry Karaszewski, collaborator of Milos Forman, claimed this on X/Twitter a few months ago.

As a fan of classical music, this will be a blind buy for me. I held out because of the MIA theatrical cut.

Now bring on Immortal Beloved, Sony!

it makes perfect sense since the negative conform would obviously be the theatrical cut, if they wanted to remaster the director's cut they'd have to find the extra material and remaster that too, which quite possibly Warner didn't want to do, especially if the negative no longer exists and only an interpositive does for the extra scenes

As long as the theatrical cut is included then I’m good.

I think it will probably be the theatrical cut, no? Similar to WB's release of The Exorcist last year, this would be the 40th anniversary of the theatrical cut so my guess is we're either getting both cuts or just the theatrical.

But yeah, day one. Fantastic film.

The announcement for the screening next week confirms it's the theatrical cut that was restored.

"Original theatrical release version 4k restoration by The Academy Film Archive and The Saul Zaentz Co. with restoration funding provided by Teatro Della Pace Films."

https://www.academymuseum.org/en/pro...c-08e3b63fa8ce

Running time matches the theatrical cut, as does the PG rating.

The extended cut is rated R, due to the added nudity.

Excited for this! It will likely only be the theatrical. I would prefer both but it is what it is.

I always questioned whether the Saul Zaentz Co. / Warner relationship agreement would allow a 3rd party license, so not too surprising to see it stay with Warner.

Hopefully they tackle One Flew Oved the Cuckoo's Nest for a 4K UHD release next.
