Great cast. Looking forward to Maggie Gyllenhaal’s direction. Thought this would be some regular drama when it was announced, but thankfully it’s more up my alley in the mystery/thriller department.

Release date: Dec. 31st on Netflix (earlier in theaters)

I wasn't able to see over this last past weekend at the Middleburg Film Festival where Dakota Johnson was in attendance, but it got a lot of talk and praise - looking forward to seeing it.

What some are calling one of the best films of the year is now on Netflix.

What a nice end of year treat from the streamer.

Hey, this at least is something different. Not super hero or janky action based. Good. I’ll catch it on Netflix.

I saw this in theaters last week and really quite liked it. 4/5 for me.

3/5.

I had been anticipating this film after all the reviews and hype and just felt it was fine? Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley are excellent but the surrounding elements are very “been there done that”.

Too much teasing. I needed more from this. Felt like there was a lot of tension built up which led to nothing. Also thought the ending was contradicting. Acting was good though.

Very good film. Superb character study of a struggling mother. Colman and Buckley are terrific. The ending, is hugely open to interpretation but I have my own thoughts on it which I won't spoiler.

Hard to believe his is Gyllenhall's directorial debut and not the output of a Director with tens of films under his or her belt.

8/10

I thought this was murkily shot and much too repetitive to recommend. Rebecca Hall is the best actress-turned-director of 2021.

'Mass' is probably in that conversation too.

Lordy, I thought MASS absolutely blew PASSING out of the water. I have no idea, other than the taboo subject matter, why the hell Passing is getting such rave reviews.

It takes subtlety to the point of boredom. It was fine, but that's it.

Mass was a powerhouse.

Haven't watched The Lost Daughter yet, but it's not doing well among men, and that's all these message boards are, at all.

That being said, it's a film made by a woman for women. You don't see women giving Lost Daughter bad reviews much.

WHEW -- that was a lot on 3 movies on 1 thread.

In the conversation for best actress turned director? News to me and Fran Kranz most of all.
