I know The Departed was good and won an Oscar, but I would have recasted it like this:
Billy: Leonardo DiCaprio Colin: Brad Pitt Costello: Jack Nicholson Dignam: Mark Wahlberg Queenan: Robert DeNiro Madolyn: Margot Robbie Ellerby: Alec Baldwin In the original Infernal Affairs, it was not only a duel between Billy and Colin, but it was also a duel between their bosses, Costello and Queenan. In The Departed, I felt that Queenan was pretty much overshadowed by Costello and he was like a second rate character. I would have preferred someone who could have as much screen presence as Nicolson, and I think DeNiro could have pulled it off. I would be curious to see Nicolson and DeNiro playing off each other. As for Billy and Colin, I think Leo nailed the role, but Matt looks too much like Leo (and also Dignam), which could be confusing to people unfamiliar with these actors. I also find that Matt's Colin is like a jerk and not too smart.. while I think Pitt could have played Colin as more of a smart badass bad guy, more in line with the way Andy Lau played Colin. You always felt that Andy's Colin was a threat to Billy because he could outsmart Billy. Never felt that way with Matt's Collin. Margot as Madolyn to complete the hotness trifecta (Leo, Pitt, Robbie). I just couldn't buy Leo falling in love with Vera. We know he would b*ng Margot. We saw their chemistry in TWOWS. |

Anything with Leonardo DiCaprio. Can't stand him outside of Titanic and The Departed. It's bizarre to see him in The Aviator and J. Edgar because it feels like a little boy playing dress up.

300: Rise of an empire. Would have cast it differently except for Eva Green.

Anybodys from Spielberg's West Side Story remake. The actor/actress seemed a bit too old at around 30. Especially compared to Susan Oakes in the original who was only 15 or 16 at the time of filming. The entire characterization of Anybodys in the remake version is a bit off to me. Maybe I won't care as much with subsequent viewings. Otherwise I think the film is flawless and it was my favorite of that year.

As much as I like Keanu Reeves in The Matrix, I sometimes wonder how different things would have been, had Will Smith taken that role.

I would recast Nicholson in The Shining and Arnold in Total Recall. When you read the book the book version of those characters are far more low key and mundane which makes their turn so startling. When we watch The Shining, of course Nicholson is going to go mad. When you watch Total Recall of course Arnold is more than an ordinary worker.

The Irishman. I would have cast younger actors as the de-aging really took me out of the film. Having Pesci call De Niro "kid", who looks like he was in his 50's even with the de-aging, made me laugh at loud.
