Default Itunes UMC/Old Itunes ID system incompatibility?

I've noticed quite a few dead itunes links where they are no longer showing prices, and this at first glance seems to be due to the UMC being valid, but the Itunes ID is for a delisted version of a movie.

For example, these are two entries for Red and eXistenZ. One is delisted, and one is active, but each pair uses the same UMC but with different Itunes IDs.

https://www.blu-ray.com/itunes/RED-iTunes/167/
https://www.blu-ray.com/itunes/RED-iTunes/163031/

https://www.blu-ray.com/itunes/EXistenZ-iTunes/11136/
https://www.blu-ray.com/itunes/EXistenZ-iTunes/145313/

If you click on any of those, they will all take you to an active itunes page despite two entries using delisted Itunes IDs. Side note, there also appears to be an issue with being directed to the proper TV seasons, and any entry just takes you to the most recent season last time I checked.

I recently saw the same thing with Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie where the entry on blu-ray.com was for a delisted version, so I made a new submission for the currently active listing.

https://www.blu-ray.com/itunes/Ghost...-iTunes/75006/

It wouldn't let me add the UMC since there was already several movies with it, so I just used the old Itunes ID for the new version and it looks like a MOD just changed the Itunes ID on the delisted version instead of making a new entry (I am just assuming this since their name is accredited to the correct ID and not mine, and there is only one entry for the itunes movie still). I am possibly incorrectly assuming they did this instead of making a new entry since they saw the active UMC already existed on the delisted entry.

Yes. Some no longer show prices and the old and new have the same UMC, and go to the same Apple TV page. Other than TV seasons, is there an issue? I checked Westworld and the URL was different every time. But the artwork was for season 4. But the episodes were for season 1.

The new Apple TV pages they are forcing on us are terrible. They sure know how to ruining something great. They should bring back iTunes, the way it was.

For Ghost in the Shell. The ID was updated to the newer once since it wasn't much different and wasn't in many collections.

Add me to the list of people confused by what's happening.

Exactly what is this UMC ID and when was it implemented? It can't have been too long ago, presumably a few months ago. Does it merely function as a master movie ID of sorts?

A few weeks ago I purchased "As Good as It Gets" when it was on sale for $4.99. I was unaware at the time that there were two listings for the film. The original listing (271860957) was released in 2014 via Sony Pictures. The new listing (531000354) was released this March via Old Friends Productions, Inc./Gracie. Despite both having their own unique iTunes IDs, they share the same UMC ID. Clicking "Buy Now" on this website will even link to the same Apple TV page for the film. However, if you were to check both listings in the iTunes app, you will see two separate entries with relevant product specs. (The newer release is actually 6 seconds longer and 0.16 GB larger.)

Yeah, it was a few months ago. Apple started forcing Apple TV on everyone.

It does seem to work as a master movie ID.

Even more recently they started rerouting itunes.apple pages to Apple TV pages so we can't seem to even access pages showing the difference anymore. Must only be able to see the difference in the app. For now we can still add iTunes IDs as long as we can access them. The UMC will be added automatically.

Its confusing. It is ugly looking. It is a rotten apple.

Yikes. If Apple IDs are done with entirely, it sounds like it might become a nightmare. It will certainly make it difficult to differentiate one version of a film from another, particularly when one version might have different audio tracks or included subtitles from the other.

Hopefully that won't happen soon. the ID's can still be accessed through iTunes on PC's and some artists pages, https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/g...=recent-movies

Looks like we can see both on this page. One is a Romance, the other a Comedy. But click on one and you're taken to the same place.

To add to this, the new itunes Apple TV landing page shows the highest resolution and HDR from the listed providers of a TV/Movie. So it might show 4K/Dolby Vision/Etc, but that doesn't mean the purchased version from itunes has any of that. You still need to check the actual purchase page in itunes to see if a movie is 4K or not.

I noticed that too. What is wrong with Apple?
