We all know that retailers are going to start pushing out stock so that they can prep for the holiday shopping time with only blu in the store, this seems like this is the start of the domino effect. Amazon has a HUGE 50% off over 100 titles of Uni, Paramount, and WB titles.

No store will be stupid enough to take away HD DVDs until its officially over. Especially major electronic stores like Best Buy and Circuit City. You all just love to spread rumors. Its not like people are throwing out their HD DVD players now, just because people arent buying them anymore doesnt mean people who already have them will stop buying the movies and go out and spend $500 on a Bluray player.

Even with HD DVD only having 2 companys they still have the best selection top 5-10 wise in the states, not including imports from the UK
Matrix collection Batman Begins Transformers Shrek the Third Bourne Identity Bourne Supremecy Bourne Ultimatum Beowulf American Gangster Until this winter when all of the major summer movies come out which looks like they will be very Blu oriented HD DVD will not just drop dead yet |

In any event, no HD disc, HD DVD or blu-ray, is moving in masses until the prices go from $30 to $20. Period - no matter what. |

Best Buy and Circuit City may cut back on the small titles, but there is NO way they stop selling movies like Transformers just because BLU ray will eventually win. People buying the HD DVD players during the 9 free movie week like I did are smart. Your getting close to $200 worth of movies, and a $175 dollar HD DVD player with 1080p. Transformers wont see Blu until at least late 2009 and neither will most large titles from Paramount and Universal. Its not like they have a stock room with ready to go Blu ray movies. WB planned on going exclusive to BLU in November, and look how long its taking to bring out Batman Begins. This format war will not end until Q4 2008 at the earliest. WB Spielberg Disney Sony and Fox look like it will control most of the Christmas movie sales which is when Paramount and Universal will switch.

Paramount and Universal will probably announce they are switching to BLU in September and see the change start in November and HD DVD will officially be done around the middle of January. The only major titles coming out on Paramount and Universal this summer are
Incredible Hulk Mummy 3 Hellboy 2 Indy 4(Spielberg wants Blu) Iron Man Kung Fu Panda But anybody expecting Cloverfield to go Blu in 2008 are going to be very upset |

I just think its weird since I have been to 5 differant best buys in NY within the last month, and they still have the same space as Blu ray, my 1 sister lives in Florida and her 2 bestbuys are the same thing and my other sister said the same about her 3 best buys in Maryland. Im just wondering where you live that they are doing this because 10 bestbuys havent changed and dont plan to

These BOGO sales at Best Buy are entirely funded by the studios/Toshiba. In fact the lead time on prepping one of these sales(with full ads) is six to eight weeks. So the HD DVD braintrust decided even before the Warner decision they needed these sales. This will have no effect on whether Best Buy drops HD DVD or not.

but... with warner changing sides, after the summer, it'll be a quicker death for hd-dvd. that will be after warner stops releasing on hd-dvd. until then, i expect we'll see better and better hd-dvd sales as the players are dirt cheap and you can get a crap load of movies for free, or BOGO. it'll add fuel to the blog fire that hd-dvd is making a comeback and will ultimately prolong this mess a little longer. but... if the BD studios hold firm, hd-dvd will still die. they can't survive with 2 studios. no way, no how. and toshiba can't afford to take those kinds of losses for ever. even stubbornness has its limits. i'll patiently wait this out and just enjoy what i can on blu. it'll be interesting to see where indy 4 lands. it's an hd-dvd studio with a speilberg title. while we think he prefers blu, i'll bet he'll simply hold his key titles back on either format until critical mass is achieved. that's still sometime off. ...random thoughts... |
