Germany Winnetou I 4K UHD (1963)

https://www.amazon.de/Winnetou-Media.../dp/B0CJ2H69LS

Very interested in this, but I don't want to buy this, so theyll release only a box set including the first one next. Which is totally what I expect though.

The Constantin Film-Intro is out of sync.
And the HDR-color grading changes from shot to shot (neutral-orange skin tones to purple-pinkish).
The pink hues don't look right, very unusual for Karl May-Western films.
The rest is stunning and much better than the old ancient HD-master.
Both, the negative and the duplicate-material were missing at 30:57 - 31:05 - old HD-master inserts, weird...

Just received this disc and sampled a few scenes. There are German/English soundtracks and subtitles. I sampled a few scenes with the English dub and there were a few lines of German in places so it seems the English dub is incomplete, though the English subtitles translated the German lines.

People don't seem to care too much about Winnetou around here, but I do () and II looks as lovely as the first one. Looking forward to part 3 and give me more please.

I would care but not at the price point they’re selling these at individually (35 euros). Standard editions at 15 euros max and I’d take them. (I know that’s probably not feasible for them but maybe we’re getting a set one day).

I see this hasn't been released in other regions, even on BD. I'll pick this up, but is there any options besides mediabook? I can't read German so there is little point to me going for one of these. A standard keepcase edition will do.

Mediabook only.

I always get them a tad cheaper at jpc with my regular 5% off and I also like to support these with my wallet despite them dropping in price rather quickly. I wouldn't pay that amount of money for the poor Constantin releases for example.

tl;tr: I am honoring these quality restorations because I care about the movies.

I'm still amazed (and disappointed) that nobody ever bothered to release any of those Karl May movies in North America, be it a cheap box set by Mill Creek or a super edition by the likes of Arrow.

Without question, the restorations are beautiful and deserving of UHDs. I just don’t like the special edition market in Germany all too much and avoid collector’s editions whenever possible. That being said, a good Mediabook can be nice if done properly and from my own experience, Leonine is the absolute worst at it. I’ve had The Zone of Interest and The Iron Claw from them this year and I consider them poorly made. Capelight is also so-so. While reading the Bloodsport booklet, it already broke off one of the staples (I hope that’s the right word, in German it’s Tackerklammer).

Luckily, Mediabooks sell well in Germany and if a standard edition releases later of some titles, I’ll often sell the MBs again and get the standard. That’s what I did with Ronin for example.

Would German labels adapt the customer-friendly strategy of Second Sight f.ex., I’d be happy to support these releases earlier and at a little cheaper. I wouldn’t have bought remotely as much Second Sight stuff if their films were all bound to LEs.

Not a fan of mediabooks/special packaging either, but beggars can't be choosers and I can surely live with the glossy Winnetou ones. I just hope they keep releasing all upcoming movies individually and don't start making new ones set exclusive. Looking good so far though. Can't remember which exactly, but part 3 shouldn't be the last one re. newly restored IIRC.

That would be a typical Leonine move. They did this with the last Spencer/Hill film, The Troublemakers, by tying it with a set of two of the most often re-released films of theirs.

I forgot to ask earlier: Am I interpreting it correctly that you get 5% off at JPC with each purchase? If so, how if you don’t mind sharing. Thanks!

Again too much Magenta.
Skin tones should be more orange.

re. jpc: Yes, I do. I am a long term jpc customer (since the 90s and before the internet actually) and there used to be an I believe monthly 6 EUR bonus (EDIT: per quarter), if you are an ADAC member. They modified this into 5% off with each order via a personalized "Vorteilsprogramm" code some years ago. So I get 5% off with each order when entering said coupon. And that is still alive and well.

Sometimes being old and loyal I guess pays off.

Sorry for inadvertently bringing that up, no further questions.
