Arrow Consumer Electronics Show CES Jan. 5-8, 2023, Las Vegas

I was invited to the following pre-CES private events, CES Press Conferences, and CES exhibits with key management meetings:

Jan. 4th 8am LG press conference, followed by Samsung's, Sony's, and a few other press conferences.

January 5, Samsung Display invited me to their private VIP lounge where they will show a select few industry insiders their 2023 QD OLED upgrades and enhancements and a sneak preview of the future of QD OLED.

January 5th 10am CES Exhibits open and I'm scheduled to see Dirac, Sony, Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Formovie, Hisense, AWOL Vision, JVC, Panasonic, a lot of AI, and Metraverse exhibits.

January 6, Sony included me in their select Key Accounts private presentation of their 2023 products with more details.

January 6, Sharp Electronics invited me to their private showing of their new 2023 QD MiniLED TV and their new 120" 8K QD MiniLED monitor. All of Sharp's new 2023 QD MiniLED panels will be manufactured in Sharp's very well respected owned factory in Japan. I have very high anticipation for Sharp's new premium TVs to reenter the US market.

Blu-ray.com and the two other a/v forums I participate in will get all of the insider information, and pictures I get and it will all be before any other website will have our insider new product information.

Please post with any questions or suggestions on what you want to learn more about.

Thanks Robert. Would be great if we got some insight into the CE’s commitment to UHD players. I really like my Panasonic UB players but they could use a refresh. Would be nice if Panasonic added SACD and DVD-A support at least to their top-tier model.

Also if Panasonic is still considering returning to the NA TV market?

Fingers crossed for a 77” (or ~83”) QD OLED from Sony and other OLED advancements from LG. That’s probably what I’m most excited for.

@Tok, Thank you and I will be discussing your suggested items!

We will have a new line of Blu-ray disc player that will start to arrive in the US early January. MAGNETAR's UDP-800 will be first followed by their premium UDP-900.

Here's the .pdf spec sheet for MAGNETAR's UDP-800.

I would love to know if LG as any plans or comments about a LG QD oled tv coming out in the future. I don't think we'll see one this year maybe in 2024.

I don't see this happening, and I don't think they care. Let's face it: high end LCD from Sony peaked in 2016—and that was it. So much potential after that, yet they wasted it by going with that X-wide nonsense and their refusal to continue the original BMD.

Yeah I don’t see them backtracking on that technology. They’ve clearly made OLED (now QD OLED) their premium line, with LCDs w/FALD being mostly their mid and lower range models. Even their 8K models which are more premium don’t match the Z9D model.

They’ll likely keep improving different flavors of OLED until microLED becomes an actual consumer-available tech.

Robert, do you know if any of the major manufacturers plan on releasing a QD OLED PC display (LG, Sony, etc)?

I second the ask on an LG QD OLED. That seems like the best of both worlds.

Would LG or Sony ever have plans to support HDR10+ in addition to DV? Of course if I had to pick one I'd take DV in a heartbeat given the relative ubiquity of it, but as we don't get Panasonics in the States having the ability to play HDR10+ would be nice.

Thanks Robert for any questions you may be able to ask on my or any of our behaves

^, yes, and especially due to the very limited content that is encoded with HDR10+ and the extra work and costs to add a 4th HDR mode most brands do not see the ROI on adding HDR10+.

Not a QD OLED, but LG's new motorized Flex TV is a very nice Gaming and PC monitor and it's also a very cool TV.

Apple TV now uses Hdr10+ on almost all there programs and movies. With the streaming app on the tv and the 4k tv box I also thought hdr10+ you did not have to pay the fee like Dolby vision?

HDR10+ is not free as you can see below. There are no per product royalty fees (a percentage of sales or a payment per unit) like DV.

It's not just the HDR10+ fees, but also consider the costs to develop the decoding algorithms, integrate the 4th HDR picture mode onto the TV, and cove the operation in the TVs warranty.

Also know that for HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG most of today's TVs from all brands do their own "Frame by Frame" HDR decoding so you get real time dynamic Tone Mapping with all HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG content.

Thanks Robert for the info on the PC display and HDR10+. I forgot it was a Samsung thing and yeah ROI isn't worth it.

Robert, since you are in close contact with the TV manufactures, you know what they are implementing with HDR10 to improve picture quality. Are their any articles on this?
