There's a Blu-ray steelbook too. The designer posted a couple of pictures of it on Twitter.

Just realised today is the 50th anniversary of the broadcast of this serials first episode. Meaning the download will be on the BBC Store later tonight:

https://store.bbc.com/us-and-canada

Showing usual BBC competence levels there's no actual purchase price shown.

Going to try and hang on for the Blu-ray but with download and DVD editions imminent it's tempting to double dip.

The steelbook is listed as 4 discs. What odds 3 of them are DVDs? I reckon we'll get this:

01: Blu-ray containing b&w and colour version.
02: DVD containing b&w version (ie disc 1 of the DVD edition)
03: DVD containing colour version
04: DVD containing bonus material (ie disc 2 of the DVD edition)

Meaning this, the most expensive edition, will be the only place in region 2 to get a physical copy of the colour version. Prove me wrong BBC Worldwide.

UK exclusive and region locked, what is wrong with BBC Worldwide? If they don't want to spend the money to release outside the UK then they should have at least made it region free.

I'm hoping it's at 25fps anyway, which is as good as region-locking anyway as most US players can't play it.

This site lists it as 2 x Blu and 2 x DVD. I'd guess:

blu 01: black & white
blu 02: colour
dvds 01 & 02 same as DVD release

A standard edition is also listed with just the two blu-rays, so I hope the extras are spread across the blu-rays so everything is available on the standard edition. I only buy steelbooks when there's no other option.

I like the steel design but it's woefuly out of place when considered next to any Doctor Who releases, steels or not. Especially in the context of Classic Who. Spearhead From Space sitting next to that will be...eclectic to say the least.

I was thinking of getting the DVD version but I think I'll go with the Blu-ray.

Could be tied up with restrictions on them; being publically funded, or they want to release it via another comapny abroad later but know that if fans abroad know the UK release is region free they the fans will already have bought it and any foreign company has no incentive to buy the rights.

Yep; very tight on money in run up to Christmas and even though I ordered DVD version to watch it on the 23rd (Doctor who Day) I've decided to cancel this and order the BD for February... and since I have Prime and have said I don't mind slow delivery on 2 items recently I got £2 off as well.

I kinda want the Blu-Ray for the obvious better quality but I need the DVD to fit in with the rest of the classic releases. Not sure if I'll get both eventually though...

Same here. And considering the colourised version is being done after the fact and not even by the original animators, I can't say that's a deciding factor!

Somewhat miffed the USA isn't getting a Blu-Ray. If that's all we're getting in the states, I'll obviously buy the DVD, but I really want the Blu.

I don't give a crap about the Steelbox, either - just wanted the better media.

Oh well.

I'm not too fond of the steelboxes myself, just want the blu-ray.

It's a bit weird how they decide where to sell what, as far as I know "An Adventure in Space and Time" was never released on blu-ray in Europe only in the USA.

There was a German release of it, IIRC.

Which is also the only place you can get the Five-ish Doctors in any form.
