Drat, another title I am forced to pay TT price for. Ah well, it'll be worth it.

Yep, same here! I actually didn't even know this was coming until I just now saw this thread. Do we know what the aspect ratio will be yet?

I own the DVD (which has dismal audio and washed out open matte image). Can't wait to revisit it in HD widescreen.

It has been a great year for Bogart films on Blu-ray.

I was reading the specs on this release and was quite surprised to find that one of the audio options is the Perspecta Stereo track. I don't think I've EVER seen Perspecta offered as an option on a DVD or blu-ray.

Indeed, what would the point be, unless a film has no true stereo soundtrack recording available (meaning, it was never recorded in stereo to begin with, or the stereo tracks have been lost). However, in the case of this film, it would appear that there is a 5.1 audio track available as an option, which I assume is true stereo---so it seemed odd to me that the Perspecta would be included as well.

I'm curious---how well does the Perspecta version sound? Come to think of it, I'm not at all sure I've ever even heard a Perspecta mix....

10kbullets has some (compressed) caps. Colour does not look very good in those caps IMHO (but their caps can be unreliable too).

Criterion released Sanjuro and Yojimbo with Perspecta Sound simulation and they sounded very good. It's a 3.0 track that is more engaging than mono.

Thanks buddy, you're right the caps loos like ass, but the review says different:

"The film is presented in a 1080 progressive widescreen. The source used for this transfer is in superb shape. Black and contrast levels look strong throughout and flesh tones look accurate. Colors look nicely saturated and at times vibrant. Grain looks healthy and there are no issues with DNR or compression."

10kbullets aren't the greatest A/V reviewers though.

Dvdsavant has just reviewed the title and although he is also normally quite generous with video scores (but an excellent film reviewer), he mentions the colour registration being off, which is what those 10kbullets shots seem to also show.

This is being released by MOC next month. Any news on their source? The TT was too red with misaligned colors in some scenes.

I wouldn't be surprised if the UK edition is the same it will ecen invlude the TT commentary track.

However the UK specs dont mention it as having the Dts HD 3.0 Perspecta audio track.

DVD beaver says the MOC release is slightly better quality.

The Masters of Cinema has a higher bitrate and their skin tones are warmer. I think it looks a bit better - colors are tighter than the Twilight Time. Not a huge difference but discerning viewers may notice.
You can see comparisons here:
